Afterall, 93 kills is not the top score for a sniper.
I read that a Finnish sniper called Simo Häyhä killed about 505. I beleive no one has managed to top that.
:/
The difference between Mr Simo, and Gunnery SGT Hathcock, is that Mr Simo is a hunter-turned-guerilla fighter, while Hathcock is a trained USMC sniper.
Additionally, hathcock's 93 kills are confirmed kills.
What's the different between confirmed and unconfirmed kills?
It's simple.
Confirmed kills are witnessed kills, with someone to vouch for them.
Unconfirmed kills are just that, unconfirmed.
To example, we know that Annabel Chong once held the dubious record of having copulated with the most guys continously, right? How do we know? Because it was witnessed. Invigilated.
Why not try submitting a record to the Guinness World Records? Say for example you managed to type a 160character sms in 60secs? Will they believe it? Nope.
Also, we must take into consideration the quality of the enemy. Mr Simo achieved his kill total against Soviet troops. Everybody knows that Soviets dont respond well to unexpected things. Everybody also knows that WWII era Soviet attacks were humongous. Nobody's going to miss a company or two.
SGT Hathcock, on the other hand, achieved his 93 kills against a formidable, tenacious, determined enemy. Namely the Viet Cong and NVA.
Hathcock does not have the highest documented kill total. No.
Matthias Hetzenauer, the Wehrmatcht's top sniper, with 345 confirmed kills, has 3 times his.
Consider for the moment, the civilian casualties that would result if a trained, experienced sniper decided to start shooting up civilians? 500 would be a pittance. Try a few times that.
