  What do support unit do in a infantry regiment ?

  They support.

  Hang on - do you mean "support company" or "support unit"?
  
  A Support COY within a SIR unit consists of a mortar platoon, signal platoon, antitank platoon & pioneer platoon. Together with HQ COY & 3 line COY's, they form one infantry battalion.
  
  A Support unit itself could be combat-based like 3rd SIG BN, or service-based like 6th DS MED BN.

  In real war the most common way you know the enemy is there is when a scout does not report back.

  so can we have robot scouts in the future?
  
  in which we modify the robot scout UAV to go 500km/hour
  
  and armed with 15 mm chain gun below the belly..and ability to hover and kill
  + couples with 4 hell fires to balance + a good engine..
  
  then we can have robot sentries..using detection of 37 degrees celsius body heat..lock on to the enemy..

  anyway sometimes if the bn hq didn't receive any reports, it's not tt the scouts have been captured. it may be the comms problem...
