Taiwanese Superior to Singaporeans

Chill out! Taiwanese people are just trying to shift their focus from China to another party, just like the other countries around S'pore. S'pore isn't known as the "whipping boy" for nothing.
The Taiwanese people do not consider themselves any superior to S'pore or Hong Kong. But their government do consider themselves as the unoffical 57 state of America. Not that America actually gives a shit about it.
BTW, if anyone is thinking, the U.S military is not likely to aid Taiwan should Taiwan decide to launch a pre-emp against China. Taiwan is not Israel, China is not Afghanistan or Iraq. Even if Bush remains the next 4years as President, he won't be able to convince any American to fight another war using Terrorism as an excuse.

I looked around for myself. Idwar is half-right.
It's said that 200,000 Taiwanese volunteered to serve with the Jap overseas forces - from 1942 onwards - & 40,000 of them died. Koreans were also inducted, but as conscripts, in 1944 (near the WWII end).
I disagree, though, that it automatically translates into all of them as war criminals (instead of being, ahem, occupation army-associates) or adopting a "superior to Chinese/Singaporeans" attitude. There were bad apples & opportunists, no doubt, but many of them also expressed conflicts in historical records about subjugating fellow Hakka's or Minnan's in SE Asia (something they didn't consider before joining up).
The actual context was that the Jap half-century colonization of the island underwent a series of top-down assimilation phases, with the final "Kominka" one (huangminhua in Mandarin) promoting an elevated imperial-subject identity circa 1937 onwards. Some of the locals - like apparently Lee Teng-hui as a kid - bought into the superficial patriotism; others saw the wartime mobilization as an opportunity to better their own social standing. It doesn't mean, however, that anti-Jap Taiwanese didn't exist, or that a lot of them continued to be employed as forced labour or as comfort women.

Any idea how many Polish fought for the Wehrmacht during WW2? This discussion is just as insensitive as discussion on comfort women. If this is interesting, may be you should find out who were those who worked for the Brit before independence and find out how well they served their colonial master in handling local singaporean. Yes, those who served the British saw themselves as superior to the Chinese-educated.
And those with British/White blood (Eurasians) also perceive themselves to be superior. That's why many migrated to Australia after Medaka/Independence.
As for the Taiwanese, there are those who descended from KMT troops who see themselves as Chinese, while Native Taiwanese and Tribals see themselves as non-Chinese.
Remember, the KMT killed thousands of Taiwanese shortly after World war 2 in order to subdue independence minded native-taiwanese........

I don't see what's there to be proud of and how they are more superior to others since they're all the same. If your argument is valid then maybe the Germans are truly the master race of this earth.
Furthermore, having 5000 missles and countless howitzers aimed at their homes, as compared to 50 miserable guns pointing at ours, and only five countries willing to (monetary) acknowledge their diplomatic existence. I hardly count that as being in a superior position. -
anyway according to Jane's, MINDEF is suspected of co-operating with Taiwan on a top secret missile project. whether tis is true or not dunno la.
so there's still a lot of military co-operation going on and we're on equal par. they also let us use their bases as exercise grounds. -

After the crook Chiang Kai-Shek and his murderous KMT troops landed in Taiwan, an incident sparked off a massacre of the Taiwanese by KMT troops.
The numbers of Taiwanese massacred in the "2-28" incident is estimated between 5,000 to 10,000.

the "kwantung army" supplied, the underworld bought and distributed while CKS provided protection and looked the other way while taking a healthy cut from his brethrens in the shanghai underworld...

So in the light of Taiwanese history, how "Chinese" are the Taiwanese?
Did their Japanese overlords make them less Chinese?

The most important Question: Do the Taiwanese see themselves as distinct? ..........and superior to Singapore SE asians of mixed Chinese-native ancestry.........( Not forgetting LKY himself is Peranakan who had to learn Chinese from scratch....) -

Your question 'how "Chinese" are the Taiwanese' would offend most Taiwanese. By dictionary definition Chinese: a person of Chinese ancestry. Your question is only logical if you are asking how many Taiwanese are mixed breeds - and to what extent (maybe Chinese with Malay, Caucasian etc blood).
Do the Taiwanese see themselves as distinct? Do Malays (you are one, I beleive?) from Malaysia (you are from there too, I believe?) consider themselves to be distinct from Indonesians? Australians, most Americans consider themselves distinct even though their ancestors were from England. I am a Chinese Singaporean and consider Chinese here as distinct too - but so what? -

The thought of Chinese killing Chinese - whether they're from Taipei or Chengdu - is really quite horrifying.
I know this happens all the time and all people have no qualms about killing people of the same race and even the same country.
But I really hope it doesn't come to that. Things like that are really nasty and take a damn long time to heal.
There are so many Taiwanese in China esp Shanghai it is quite difficult to think of the two as being separate.
A lot of young Chinese would make jokes about "liberating" Taiwan sometimes in front of Taiwanese associates but hope it remains a joke.
Still, I gather enough to feel that underneath, most Chinese are quite ready to go to war with Taiwan as they start to feel China is invincible. And they are also spoiling for a fight with the US as they can't stand the US arrogance.
Of the Taiwanese I've met, some are pro-independent and some are actually keen to be re-unified with China for reasons of culture and history and also practicality. They are sick of Taiwan's grey position in the world as being the "illegitimate" China. And also they feel Taiwan can become stronger as part of China than to remain a little independent island. -
