War breaks out?
Assuming we got like a Blitzkreig kind of attack.
I'm quite curious, if really war breaks out. Telecomunications might have been hit and we prolly have like maybe blackouts of communications?
And how do guys get back to camps when u are like somewhere out there and there's like no public transport with communications being hit? Which of coz u are like some long distance away from your camp? Would prolly be a horror for those in Gedong or T.Gul.
Would u choose to find your loved ones first or find the nearest camp to your knowledge?

i would try to get a radio as i make my way home to where my love ones as well as many military barang barang is... aka... FBO minus the weapons and ammo.
even if there is a recall or full mobilization... i will still need my number 4 and SBO... so die die must go home first..
after which... i wait for my recall IC to inform me where to find my unit and get my weapons...
but if i am on standby... then like many of my collegues who owns a car... we will go straight to camp... since all the barang barang is in the car... -

Why?Simply because I would like to do my part for the country in her times of need,by doing what I do best. -
There are different methods of recall.
Open Mob - "flashing green men" on public media
Silent Mob/recall - by telephone call up from top down... OC - PC - Spec - men
And there is actually another way of recall. One has to write down the address and also print/draw a copy of his house area on the recall paper. in the event of a general communication failure / no TV etc etc... the unit would have split Singapore into various zones, then will get a vehicle to each "zone" where there is a recall IC who will go around in the vehicle and pick everyone up in the vehicle and report back to camp. -
i just go any active camp, or mahybe CMPB, say, draft me now, cause i wanna be defending, not running.

think ncc will let you go fight is it? you'd be more of a liability to the real fighting forces...
doing what you do best? please...if you haven't trained with the real SAF, don't think too highly of yourself. -
hahaha NCC training is mainly drills and more drills..and abit of discipline...that's about it..no real life arms drills or whatever...its nothing compared to the real thing..

Im a former NCC Cadet and i at first joined NOT because i wanna defend country..but i wanna gain CCA point for my own benefit.
but leh, after all these years, even if a war comes and need manpower (say last time 1942, urgent need of manpower to fight war) i will do it. -
The likeliest reality is all of the SAF would've been mobilized already. The various combined-arms DIV's would've moved out, leaving the island to be defended by the 2nd-line PDF forces.
Can't say for a terrorist attack, but we definately won't be surprised by a conventional-force invasion. Heck, the Japs took something like 100 days to advance down the Malayan peninsula, & that was considered a brilliant quick-strike compaign.
If you have served NS, you'll know more detailedly what being operational-ready means, with reference to standby forces & REDCON 1 status. -
The scenario perhaps is too vague. Here's a more detailed one.
Let's say around like 8:30am on a sunday. You were like jogging/walking around town area at that point in time. Suddenly Air raid siren and before u knew it, loud explosions of air bombing heard everywhere. When u regain posture after the bombings, you realise buildings around you partially destroyed. Lots of screamings and people who were driving were frantically either evacuating from their vehicles or speeding away. You tried using ur hp but no network (Either there's like tons of people using HP at the same time which causes the Network deficiency or the whole damn Telecommunications network got hit so badly that its out)
Now in this case as above my 1st post, what would you do? And those whose camp are like T.Gul or Gedong, how would u return? (My camp isn't there but i know just how far those camps are like lol)
Anyone here with good suggestive views? Coz to my knowledge, we may be operationally ready for a prepared attack in advance but what about a sudden one? -

i will go back home..check on my family..get my gear n go back camp..if got car use car..no motorise vehicle..i use bicycle.. -
Well of coz the Air Defence would be no doubt defending, but our airspace is like so miniature. The bomb attack would unlikely be of small scale as the aim of the bomb attack would definitely to annihiliate KI's and mass numbers of population. If your an attacker and wan it to be sudden with maximum effect, a huge scale bombing is more feasible as u can wipe out a very large number of men who are trained. 100 bomber planes divided into 4 waves will cause rather serious infrastructural and population damage.

I think that such scenerio of Singapore being caugth with their pants down will not happen but for the sake of discussion.......
1st - Make sure all family members are safe.......
2nd - call buddies/camp-mates/CSM/PL SGT etc etc....to verify and gather information on what happened......
3rd - Go back camp.......no need to wait for activation code or phone call liao since Singapore already under attack......
Some other people may be a quitter and want to buy tickets and fly out of Singapore liao
But hor, if people really want to attack Singapore, Sea Air and Land would be blocked rite? So where can you go......... either lan lan go back camp or AWOL.... -

Every country do have their spy & intelligence working around the clock to monitor or access the situation in case any surprise attack by neighbor, unless the goven choose not to listen.
If the situation is tense, bet you could feel that SAF is gear up ready for action, could I call you young man as was in this situation before. What I could say is all active units are order to be in Redcon 1 & Decon 2 regardness of green horn or ready ROD units and if the button is press what we could do is just collect what we can & CO shall open the sealed envelop follow the instruction, even the button need to be pressed, our gun already pointing some where. Needless to say about the reserves units.
Open or silent mob is just to prevent thing happen, if so happen what you mention do occur, well say goodbye to your family & beloved one, go back to your reporting camp, you might stand a chance to survive. -

Never learn your Sec. 2 History properly meh?? Once Malaya fell, it's a matter of time before SIngapore's defences collapses... No water, constant bombardment on any point in Singapore from Johor... We're besieged!
Fact, and I emphasise FACT is if Malaysia, or even Thailand is attacked, we'll be mobilised up there...
Operation Matador by Ong Chit Chung... It's a British plan to defend Malaya and SIngapore during WWII... Enjoy reading everyone... Heez... -
The war between WWII and now so different. Besides the british wasn't really full hearted in defending and the defence positions at that point of time were facing south. Can't really compare the battle during those times to now.

Malaysia is still the same, Singapore is still as small... That's means friend, we still have to move up north to fight!!
British wasn't full hearted? I guess the Malaysians will be more enthusiastic in defending their nation now but still their army is small... You mean we're gonna wait until their army retreated until JB before we mob?? TOo late...
Defence positions facing south?? You mean those few guns are gonna make a difference? Anyway, that's a WWII myth your history textbook told you cos those guns can traverse and fire to the north, except they had armour piercing shells for shooting ships instead of high-explosive against soldiers....
The difference is today, troops can move faster and have better intelligence, that means there's even less reason for Singapore to be caught unprepared...
Most important lesson learnt from WWII which is still very true today is:
The defence of Malaysia and Singapore is inseparable. If one falls, the other falls too... -

>>> No point. Word of mouth, while useful, can complicate the confusion. Instead, get access to the nearest radio, to get a sense of the whole picture & also any SAF announcements. (Screw the codewords; they won't apply by then.)

As for the reservists generally making their way back to camp, the pressing compulsion would be there but IMO not necessarily the "desperate urgency" - cuz some time is theoretically bought, with the ad-hoc vanguard forces already mobilized & sent out. Possibly as long as 24 hours.
Also, I won't expect the subsequently-assembled outfits to be deployed to what they've been trained for. They may even be below-strength (why not?), with or without certain KAHs in place. It's also likely to be the PDF staff officers who'll take charge of the island defences, so supposedly frontline soldiers could be sent instead to guard installations/bridges, help distribute ammo, join the SCDF relief or just anxiously waiting in camps as reserve-contingency forces. Might even see the merging of certain units, so that the combined whole can be practically tasked for a functional assignment. Don't bank on doing things by rote or by the textbook.
Just do your best if we kena such a scenario. No one will begrudge you for taking a week or longer to report back, after seeing to & settling personal affairs which are more important to you. -

i think we all think too far liao..the explanation lonelysoldier gave is only abt artillery bombardment...he never mention anything abt enemy landing on Singapore or frontline was destroy at all..

Arty bombardment ... & we dunno where they're coming from? Kinda hard to suspend my disbelief that far.
He did mention "air raid siren", which suggests more of an aerial attack (& which is precude to some sort of a land invasion). For this part, just close shop & listen to the radio, lah - isn't that the mindset which the countless Civil Defence alarm-sounding on Saturday noons supposed to drill?
Indulge me; I didn't elaborate earlier on how our standby forces would react, but here's my take anyway:
1. The quickest-activated would be the RSAF & the DA BNs (both to secure air superiority), followed by the recalling of RSN fortilla out patrolling. This aspect of the battle could drag on for days, even as the rest of the SAF mobilizes.
2. The standby ground-troops, while alert, aren't really that bountiful. They'll thus be deployed to dig in somewhere, but serve as frontline blocking positions against the perceived land invasion. Could be lots of scrambling around, depending on what intelligence the Joint Staff gets.
3. The NSF outfits would reinforce the standby forces, ready to take the fight to the enemy. Ditto the NSman outfits who happened to be attending ICTs. I suppose I'd better give a shout-out to the OCS & BMTC/SISPEC batches as well. They'll be activated for battle; in particular, we'll need to withdraw the Tekong guys back to the mainland to prevent a siege there.
4. The civilian reservists, upon reporting, would be utilized accordingly - even if only to help out in disaster relief or logistics distribution. Would this mobilization aspect be super-prompt? I'm not that optimistic, since the affected guys have to make serious choices - which in a worse-case mentality is akin to abandoning their parents, leaving wifes to fend for themselves, & possibly never see their children again. Won't put it past certain patriots joining the field-deployed personnel as pseudo-militia too, willing or enforced.
~shrugs~ That's how I foresee the SAF in such a crisis-management mode.
If anyone's interested in how we'll respond to an invasion, I recommend the SAF "Fighting Fit" coffeebook issued about a decade back (way before Douglas Chia's & Wee Ee Mon's novels). It included a fictional short story that briskly namedropped, Tom Clancy style, our formations & equipment (both a bit dated - it had us fighting with SAR-80's) as well as local landmarks against a force attacking from the east.
FWIW The narration centered around the Battle of Changi (IMO more like East Coast Parkway &, supposedly, Marine Parade) & more romantically, the Battle of Tekong (IMO more like Rocky Hill, with the recruits digged in & waiting for the GDS to heli-drop in as support). The tale ends with a killer punchline of a coda, which I won't reveal here.
