Hmm! Information from magazine is like news from CNN or BBC, never know if they are reporting the truth. SWAT means Special Weapons And Tactics, they are allowed to use any number of weapons at their disposal as long as their department can afford to buy.
Personally, I'm not saying Glock is girle gun, I'm just asking what gun you would prefer in a fire fight.
Anyway, other might disagreed with me but personally, I prefer to use any .40 or .45 cal guns for close proximity shooting( law enforcement shootings ) & 9mm guns for slightly distance shooting( military shootings ).

Ooh! With regards to your question about the "card gun", its similar to a musket. It would mean that I've got to be blond to stand at 25m & wait for you to load your "gun" just to get myself killed.
The pen gun, requires you to be able to aim at a kill point on a target inorder for the bullet to be able to kill, that is if it doesn't blow up in your hands.

Glocks are essentially used due to their reliability.Though expensive,I would rather pay more and ensure that a weapon goes BANG each time I need it rather den pay for something which may and may not go BANG.In combat what wpuld I do in such a case?With a piece of metal which I'm supposed to shoot with,and yet can't,suck my thumbs?Thus people go for guns which are reliabilty and have proven designs.

Perhaps you are suggesting that the magazine in question, and also the police department in question, specifically bought Glocks just to tell the bad guys, "These are the guns we use".
Like it or not, Glock is prominent in the US for police.
Even if the officer thinks differently, People HIGHER UP think otherwise.
In any case, if your department issues you a certain firearm, and a certain type of ammo, like it or not, you use it. You don't want to get stuck in a case where the lawyer says "He's a bloodthirsty officer who WANTED to kill the criminal, so he modiefied his ammo/weapon".

Anyway, the Federal agencies can afford to buy new weapons as they get their money from the Federal government, the Treasury.
The U.S government does not purchase the glocks for other law enforcement agencies like the way they do for the army. Instead, its up to the local or district level law enforcement agencies to request for the spending money from their mayor's office inorder to purchase the glock.
My friend in DEA/Maimi, FL, doesn't use a glock.
He hasn't get into any problems with any defending lawyers.
And even if its a problem, the solution is that most law enforcers in America have their personal permit to carry personal arms & when use in a line of duty is usually not a problem.
As for your question on the muzzle loader thing, its like comparing chicken rice from S'pore & Hong Kong. Both are the same thing except the difference is taste & its up to the consummer to decide which chicken rice he prefers.
Btw, have you fired a mussket? It can be as effective as a shot-gun. Of course, the different is that the shot-gun uses a shell ammo with a number of pellets, while a mussket uses a single pellet , etc. [/list][/quote] -

If the agency in question already has the new weapon, and they are telling the world about it, dont you think they'd have paid the cash already?

Enough to secure contracts to supply a good amount departments/forces?
And most importantly, enough that even Singapore uses them.
If nothing else, Heckler and Koch also make a good amount of firearms, and supplies a lot of units. Are you going to say that HK weapons are girley guns too?

I can drag out, if you wish, details of just a few cases when police officers went through long and harrowing trials where the suspect was shot in "unclear" circumstances. -
1. My friend is a DEA agent, that speaks for itself. As to whether he has killed anyone in the line of duty, that is something no shooter would ever brag about.
2. You've been watching too much lawyer shows.
3. You don't get my point as to why some law enforcement agencies aren't using glock.

Upon looking at the picture more closely, the guy is indeed a NY ESU officer.
They've have SWAT trainning but they are not SWAT officers. -

YES i am VERY sure SG cops do use Glock. Specifically, Glock 19.
And on this point, im Foxtrot Charlie Uniform Kilo sure.
WHY? because i have personally seen it been carried on the belts of officers at a certain exposition, and it was also exihibited. It was advertised as being the sidearm of the STAR teams.

Why do certain law enforcement agencies don't use Glock? Sometimes it comes down to personal pefernece. Maybe they like Beretta. Maybe Browning. Kimber? Sig Sauer? Or maybe they like Korth. If your boss dictates you use this, you jolly well use it.
You are saying that Glock is a girly gun. Which, by implication, Austria is a Girly Country, as Glock. Inc came into being by suppling a pistol to the Austrian army. So if i carry your statement to the extreme, Germany is a girly state because they issue H&K weapons to their armed forces/LEOs?
The sidearm the officer is carrying, is a Glock. No two ways about. You can take me at my word, that i can identify more than 70% common weapons at a glance. Even if it is not, it is using a Glock-style lower reciever.
No, i have not been watching too much lawyer shows. I have spoken with a few Law students, and i can tell you that you do not want to debate with them. some of them literally can turn Black to White.
And as for your friend, ask him, if you would, if anyone in his agency has gone through a lawsuit by a lawyer who argued "Gentlemen of the jury, the officer in question took extra training, modiefied his weapon beyond service standards, handloaded his ammunition, all just because he wanted to shoot people".
Besides, being in any agency, no matter how august the name, does not in and of itself signify anything. Has your friend seen the elephant? There are officers who throughout their entire life do not use their sidearms in anger.
Lastly, even if YOU yourself do not like your Issue Weapon, the people UPSTAIRS like it. After all the examples i have exampled, so many agencies cant be wrong. More to the point, there are statements from police officers themselves that they love their Glocks. They all can't be wrong, can they. -

I'm not sure where you're coming from, but if you can find the time to look up the crime stats in the U.S, you'll know that the percentage of fire-fight situations is quite significant.
Glock was the brand of knives from Austria before their venture into making guns. They were much like the Swiss army knives. Honestly, I didn't said that the glock guns are girlie but since you've kept insisting that I did, I won't object to your view.
I know for certain that 1 of the reason why Glock is popular for the law enforcement agencies in U.S is due to the fact that its a light weight weapon which even a girl can carry & use.
I can see from your comments that you are a strong supporter for Glocks but have you ever used it? I've have personally used the glock 28 compact, its light even when loaded with 10 rds of .380. Theres almost no feel of the recoil kick back when firing, the sights are clear enough to see in a quick draw but it would be better to modify for night shooting. And again it so light that even a girl can carry & run with it. -

Why, long ago, before Glocks were exihibited at any police recruitment drive, the newspaper itself admitted STAR teams utilised the Glock.
Yes, i read extensively on the US situation, and could tell you more about the odd gun laws they have then you need to know.
Add to that i still have a very pretty lady in my home who tells me all i need to know about weaponry, and my piles of Firearm literature.
Not to forget my small stock of firearm manuals.
Here's a little question. They use Taurus .38 revolvers, but who manufactures the laser sights?
And just so you know, it's so light and handy even a kid can use it.
I am not a supporter of .50 AE pistols, if that is any clue.

Johnston is saying that the normal patrol man of the SPF uses the Taraus .38 and those in the Police Special Operations Command and Police Security Command use the Glock 19 series of handguns.

No, SAF emphatically do NOT use Glock.
It's not advertised anywhere, and i don't want to dig there.
I was somewhere once where i saw certain more interesting firearms on the armskote list, but damned if i will tell you what they are.
Rather, they use the SIG Sauer P226 without rails.
If you want to know, they use Vektor and HK P7s.
There is nothing much to discuss about 17 vs 19.
The 17 is the full sized version, while the 19 is the compact version.
You get
less unmodified magazine capacity (17 + 1 vs 18 +1)
slightly lesser range
easier to conceal.

to be exact, the Stars team .... a few months ago, The Straits Times did several articles on the Singapore's special forces .... in one of the articles, they mentioned that Stars members are using Glock handguns ....
by the way, how u all define "girlie" ? just because the girls can carry it ??

After he left Steyr, he started his own company which sold small items such as plastic curtain rods. Wow. Curtain rods. Their so military.
In the 70's he secured contracts with the Austrian army to supply items such as ET tools, knives, and links for ammo.

There isn't really that many laws with regards to gun in the U.S, only regulations. But like you said, a good lawyer will ensure you stay out of jail.

Well, thats good to know about your shooters, congrates to them.
I too have scored quite well with glock though I personally don't like the gun, especially after all the exchange communication with Johnston.
So far there hasn't been much complain about it but I personally don't like the design for the mag release. It can be quite a hassle in a stressful situation & if you're wearing gloves. Other then that, theres the weight factor.
I m not referring it to any girlie comment between me & johnston, but seriously, the weapon is so light that I sometimes forget that I'm carrying it which can be quite a problem, though it hasn't occur yet. Thats why I try to carry a slightly heavier gun. It may be incovenience but at least I know its there.
The Walther P99 is not a very popular gun even though its been around for a few years already but I like it. However, its not a gun for concealment especially if you've a small body frame like mine. Its noticeable even with wearing a coverall.
With all thats said & done, a hand gun is much better as a secondary weapon. Preferrable to carrry an assault rifle as primary weapon is always better. My view is that if you've got to use your secondary weapon after your primary, then you're definately in a deep shit situation.
