According to this book by Duncan Falconer, Margaret Thatcher favoured the SBS over SAS after SAS kept screwing up - including a mission in the Falklands when a SBS team leader was accidentally shot dead by 4 SAS idiots, and another mission where SAS operatives used their satellite comm system to report back to HQ which was supposedly a severe breach of procedure.Originally posted by chunyong:SAS will sometimes disobey the Queen's order (happened once or twice b4) due to their overwhelming pride. SBS is more on low profile.....sometimes SBS and SAS work together but SAS will take all the glory.
I think the most distinctive difference between Infantry, Guards and Commandos are:Originally posted by meander:What's tab ? tenah air base ?
Guards are just infantry with nicer toys. Take away their LSVs/heli-drops, and guards = infantry. They do the exact same stuff on the ground. IMO you can't really compare Guards and Cdo as their job scope is different. It's like comparing infantry and armor to see who's better.
And yeah i agree with esesce on the point abt the SBS. Mention that to most Singaporeans and they'll tell you it's a stupid bus company.
not to forget SAS did, at least once, disobeyed her orders.Originally posted by esesce:According to this book by Duncan Falconer, Margaret Thatcher favoured the SBS over SAS after SAS kept screwing up - including a mission in the Falklands when a SBS team leader was accidentally shot dead by 4 SAS idiots, and another mission where SAS operatives used their satellite comm system to report back to HQ which was supposedly a severe breach of procedure.
Interesting point to note, SBS guys are drawn only from the ranks of the Royal Marines wherelse SAS take their guys from all over the armed forces. Also, if one fails the SBS course, he is still SAS qualified. Gives you an idea of which is more elite.
