Yes think there are some that are already pre-determined by results and ECA, just need confirmation in 3 mths training. But there are those who are not pre-determined but shine in 3mths will have a chance.Originally posted by mujiland:Questions:
1) Is it true that officer cadets are choose based on their ECA?
2) Is it true that they are pre-determined before our BMT?
I finished my duty more than 7yrs liao, and these questions still lingers in my head to this day. i am truly disappointed with the army which i once look upon so dearly. i have to had some answers....
i was told by one of the officers that he can recommend someone with 'calibre' to the cadet course but at the end of the day, he said, there is actually a list of 'pre-selected' candidate. it so happens that cadets has ECA in relation to npcc, ncc or some basketball team captain - if not they would have at least an exemplary academic record.
back then i was aspiring to go ocs, i tried my best in everything i do. but nevertheless i didn't manage. because (imho):
1) i never had any proper ECA - why bother? back then my ECA was hanging around Wisma Atrium
2) my academic record is good but not exemplary - but i never study hard, i just study when exams is near
3) i was blackmarked by sore-eyes officers and specialists (i will never forget them in this lifetime!) because i was so and so's son (f*** the system!)
the strange think is, there was this guy who failed his ippt, has a damn too fat figure, failed his marksmanship and when in 'hypertension' or something during one training - went to ocs???
y? izzit because it is predestined? by the government? I heard one of the candidate when thru the FFI but fail due to a drug that he need to take for his supposely severe asthma cond. but he went thru and go to ocs. but i shldn't be surprise as i heard the so-called mo is somehow related to him and he was so desperate to go ocs.
can someone shed some lights if the above questions are true?
i love singapore and the army, but i simply hate the people in there - of course except for my buddies!
not too sure but having an ECA does help because they looking for people with leadership quilities.Since the sch already help them vet by appointing them an leader and keeping them 1 i guess the SAF just took the easy way out.As for people with medical conditions....well the SAF medical system is honestly f**Ked!! my friend with a hole in his heart and barely can walk 2.4km got PES A while i go PESB cuz i once broke my arm!Originally posted by mujiland:Questions:

For your info, nothing is wrong with me. My mates can vouch for me + all my frens i have now. just because my father is someone rather high-up there doesn't mean they should be sore about it. So r u suggesting that I AM THE ONE WHO IS WRONG?Originally posted by storywolf:Yes think there are some that are already pre-determined by results and ECA, just need confirmation in 3 mths training. Maybe you should be asking why in the first place you get blackmarked by sore-eyes officers and specialists ! Seem a little strange that you get blackmarked by everyone all at the same time. Possible something is really wrong with you.
I agreed totally abt the saf medical system. but the case i mentioned is really 'hei an'. ..Originally posted by |-|05|:not too sure but having an ECA does help because they looking for people with leadership quilities.Since the sch already help them vet by appointing them an leader and keeping them 1 i guess the SAF just took the easy way out.As for people with medical conditions....well the SAF medical system is honestly f**Ked!! my friend with a hole in his heart and barely can walk 2.4km got PES A while i go PESB cuz i once broke my arm!
How is it possible that 2 average guys can get OCS?Originally posted by wd1:walau. all of u conspiracy theorists. the two guys whose lao pei got high rank, maybe because of the father influencing them to like military stuff they were hign rank in NCC or did well in BMT? cannot always say it's because lao pei pull strings or anything.
but as for all those unfits getting OCS: yea very often the SAF Med Corps is screwed up. and something i learnt from the selection of Best Cadets at NCC spec course: they don't always go for the most ultimate siao on fella. if u overdo it siao-on is really irritating. they look for those in which they can see the special edge, the X-factor, someone who is also particularly intelligent, fit, charismatic and inspiring. maybe they do the same for OCS.
another thing i heard: good ECA record and good sec school/JC counts alot too!
Ask ur father to go n complain loh, unfair treatment 2 his son, thats u...they sure kana v chia lat!!Originally posted by mujiland:For your info, nothing is wrong with me. My fren/buddy who went ooc, and was posted to the admin office overheard them saying something like: the ps and pc (fresh from ocs) was complaining abt me, saying that so wat if i my father was so and so. very insulted, especially when i did nothing - i m just another recruit who strips and assemble back the rifle within the top 5i never declared whom is related or whosoever, they themselves dig them up. when my former pc (who is a very chrismatic and wise Lt), asked who family or relative is in the service - i didn't even declared. what for? I am ready to serve my 2.5yrs and get the hell out of there.
Look not trying to be harsh ! But just saying the fact .Originally posted by mujiland:For your info, nothing is wrong with me. yep think the the situation tests which a few majors or colonels come down to see who the outstanding one who lead his peers to situation test.Originally posted by YI:there will be a reservist officer testing you during the final phase of bmt. just tell him you are a leader and not a follower. i told him the opposite.![]()
Whoa you got that right dude.Originally posted by storywolf:Look it is time to move on, it been 7 yrs !!!
When time of reservist, you see soldiers with no rank driving merz and other brand cars, while a lot of officer does not even have a car.
People is not going to say Mr So and So was a LTA in the Army last time. People is going to say Mr so and so is the president or director of this and that company ! So move on.
May I know u r who's son? Or at least give me some hint. Is your dad a MP or VVIP?Originally posted by mujiland:Questions:

I know liao. Your dad is a WOs ?Originally posted by mujiland:I agreed totally abt the saf medical system. but the case i mentioned is really 'hei an'. ..
i guess too small population makes this selection system perfect for us. unfortunately, this don't work all the time. so how to account for those who can't even pass ippt, marksmanship and still go to ocs?
4 figure can mean $1000 or $9999. This is nothing. I have a friend who finished his last B.I.T after 10yrs of ICT. The last B.I.T, he submitted MUP form of annual income of $360,000.Originally posted by Johnston:Whoa you got that right dude.
My own father caused the people in NSPC to have a fit when he submitted the MUP form. It had a four figure number on it.
What's important that you are CEO So and So, not LTA (NS) So and So.
they called those tests the aptitude test is it.. forgotten liao.. think got name one..Originally posted by speedjpop:all of us has done the 'tests' b4 getting enlisted.....im very quite SAF will not waste tax-payers $$ just to conduct these tests for nothing.....the results must have meant something important....
Well, there may not a correlation between hailing from a rich home and having a loyalty to the country even the elite forces only dream about.Sometimes, certain people get into OCS despite being only adequately fit because they might be forecasted to be captains of industry later on in life due to their results and family background. This will let the SAF be in a position to capitalize on their leadership or organizational talents when they are in reservist, and no, they can't possibly do that if the NSman is a tankee, RP or even a Inf Spec(no insults intended here). This fellow, having been through OCS and perhaps a NS OC now, might be a better use to the Army.Well, at least that's what I think the SAF works in their own way....Comments?Originally posted by speedjpop:the org topic was abt how soldiers are selected into OCS. kindly stick to the topic.
as there's no clear guideline made known to the public on how the selection is being done....there's a FOG surrounding the topic....only those performing admin duties in the CORRECT department or the proper ppl with the 'high enough' clearance can anwser the questions....
generally and logically speaking, one who excels in both phyically and mentally in his teens, WILL surely have an edge over those who r average, to get pre-marked for leadership courses. If you are the one doing the selecting, wld u choose someone who has shown potential to lead and the ability to endure hardship or one who's not active @ all???
all of us has done the 'tests' b4 getting enlisted.....im very quite SAF will not waste tax-payers $$ just to conduct these tests for nothing.....the results must have meant something important....
but then again, there are ppl who just isn't suitable to be in OCS or SISPEC.....being in a family with a 'shiny' background does helps....im formally from the 'scholar' coy in BMT and then THE WING in OCS, made frds with these white knights......i must say MOST of them are highly intelligent, motivated and extremely loyal..........but some can't just not suitable and doesn't belong to the army......
They let the rank go to their head and they don't even realise it.Some even think that the piece of sitched black thread on the shoulder is a badge that says they are the best in whatever they do.Total bull. The only people who have learnt anything from their NS life and go on to be mature adults and not poseur OCS ppl are those who have , as you mentioned, been successful in managing ppl and learning how to work in a myriad of environments.Officer is just a rank, it does not feed you or make you a complete man.Let those who assume so learn the hard way, for they must do so in order to learn about the world at large.Originally posted by le cruz:so wat if officer, seriously?
most important is the skills you learn in the Army. people skills maybe? skill of dealing with difficult superiors, comtemporaries and subodinates?
not only officers make things happen, you know. men and spec also make the difference. And there are many of them who take pride in what they do, have initiative to do what is supposed to be done, without needing others to guide step by step.
All in all, i tink if i have learnt something useful from my Army days that can help me in civilian life, made some friends, made some contacts, I think it's not wasted.
not officer, so wat?
officer big fcuk also? some ord officers in uni, behave like still in camp. wear OCS singlet walk all over the shop. really, i tink too damn action liao. i personnally think that's the weong attitude siaz.....
so, even if become officer also not necessarily will become more mature one. don't fret over this matter anymore, yeah. it's been a long time. forget abt all those farked up people who went OCS instead of you. tell you, probably they suffered inside. so, you're even already k.
