Infantry: The Workhorse of Battle.

Artillery.
Armour.
Engineers.
Logistics.
Signals.
Adminstration.
Air Force.
Navy.
All of them support ONE formation. Namely. The Infantry.
As evidenced in the Vietnam War, and also WWII, you can bomb the enemy till the cows come home but you need to go in with troops on the ground.
So all the fancy MBTs, SPHs, AVLBs, what-have-yous.... support... the Rifleman.
Thoughts?

by the way, do you know that china's primitive logistics support during the korean war was the main reason why the UN is able to hold out till reinforcement arrives. -
No Logistics = No Food
No Logistics = No Water
No Logistics = No Ammo
No Logistics = No Nothing
Thus I conclude Logistics is still a key element in any battle. Small and insignificant it might seem now, but it IS decisive. -

Yes the logistic people are still important.
But we're not going to kill the enemy Divisions with large amounts of POL, ammo, and food, are we?
And by the same token, without Mr Rifleman to defend against them, who's goin to use the stockpiles?

You might want to look back to WWII, Infantry soldiers still had to march on with or without transport. WW II chinese infantry fought the Japs even with swords, kitchen knives, etc. -

every unit in SAF depends on each other to complete their mission, that's the purpose of the combined arms div.
but most of the time, i feel that inf soldiers are being overlook, as compared to the more prestigious cdo / gds. anyway, we're all there to do the same job if we need to, to defeat our enemy. -
In a way, everyone in SAF is consider a infantry soldier in basic. No matter who you are storeman, cook ! Yes you may have your specific job, but when thinks get rough, you are expected to be able to take a rifle and shoot it out with the enemy as rifleman. The infantry is need to hold the ground !
The role of infantry is changing fast, but no matter what happen you still need guys on the ground to direct planes, helio or artillery on the enemy and if necessity take on the enemy themselves at the last resort. -

i do believe that infantry is important in holding ground, but equally important is the artillery such that the infantry do nothing more than merely collecting bone. but without logistics, are they going to the battlefield armed with only arrows and stones? equally important were the air force for maintaining air superiority such that our man on the ground can do their work in peace. infact everybody are important.. from signals to the medics, and even the humble storemen.
