well if you really wanna spend to help, what do spend on?
say simple things like daily essentials, will you go NTUC? or will u go those neighbourhood shops even though its more expensive?
where you decide to buy stuff will determine who suffers.
anyway singapore is mainly an export driven country, which is why maunfactuing in a slump now, when US is not importing from us -
we seem to be caught in a stupid position. While we know that spending will help to boost in the economy, it will burnt a hole in our pocket which are already shallow. Worse still, the recession interval seemed to get shorter and shorter

like now shopping centres are packed..eveyrwher r packed..but actually they r runnin for the sales...normaly usualy mths r so quiet...bt hwever, even if there r sales,...ppl aso go there window shopping...no spend money

From playing a mere 'supporting role' in te global economy (especially to the US), I think SG is ready for a more proactive and 'leading' role, in particular to new horizons such as the NE Asia CJK markets, as well to the India market.
Something like what the strategies call diversification startegies, excepth that we should be driving in furiously into well aimed and 'containable' niche industries.
Juz my 2 cents worth of crap anyway. -
While it is true that retail industry is important to Singapore, it is not putting all its eggs in one basket. The fact is that we are encouraged, even by the government to control our spending, even though it might affect the economy, why?
Because: The Government is p roactive to invest in other industries.
1. Life sciences, though not an established industry in this region, it is QUESTION MARK product worth investing in.
2. Reason why government encourage SME to go regional and global? ----> higher GDP -----> better economy
Many other examples too, but yes, PLEASE spend only when necessary. I see frens complaining economy bad lah, pay decreasing, GST increasing lah, but then the next day go buy 1 Sony Clie or wat costing $750. Some buy Hi-Fi close to $1000. While its their money i cant say anything, i wan to ask, is since u complain s o much no money why spend such money to buy these things which are luxuries item. No palm, no Hi Fi will die? since u choose to buy these things, dun blame the economy, dun blame government, dun blame God, dun blame people, blame urself.
So, Think Before You Spend!! -
Why are people so afraid of risk and failures?? Probably because of the high cost of living in Singapore......Once you hit the lows, it's going to be a tough road from then on....
