if not, then it`ll totally make the meaning of promise pointless
My teacher once told me,
the poeple of the past make their promises more solemly
and today, the word promise had already lost it`s meaning
thus the EMPTY PROMISES comes into place
like wat my fren promise me not to be late..

I don't say things without thinking, generally as a rule.
I must admit, i've ever said the 3 words, without meaning it because she kept wanting to hear it. It doesn't feel good, nor does it come out right.
So if you ask me to promise something like that, when no one knows what tomorrow will bring... i'll probably rephrase it to something like..
"I promise to take care of you, as long as you are in my heart, and you love me so."
You get the idea..? Not romantic i know, but better than making promises i can't keep..~ -
of course, I would like my bf to say that to me.. but alas, up till now, he hasn't even said "i love u".. he always tells me.. u prefer to hear that or u prefer me to show it thru actions...
I personally feel that "loving someone forever" takes a lot of effort.. so we should not that lightly... generally people just say that to please other party which is of no use... yeah, it's good to hear that but I 'd rather actions show it... even after marriage, love does dwindle... there's no way you can maintain that level of love for the other half... it's has to be complemented with other things such as trust, commitment, respect etc....
There's no use to say that and then break up... promises are meant to be broken, after all. How would u like to be in a relationship with quarrels every other day, but your stead still says that to you? Will it serve any purpose? -
