can anybody give me some advice. i now thinking of getting a degree, but not sure if it is worth while o not. i got a classmate whose result is mostly a , after graduate, found a 1.7k job. another friend result onli c n d. but can still find a 2k job. if study, i want 2 study accounting. but dun know if should go 4 egree o acca? anybody got such experience?

ACCA better. they say the cert is equivalent to a degree..
but ACCA quite tough. -
Do something you like. You can be making $50,000 and still not be happy which is pretty pointless. acca: specialise cert
accounting degree: basic stuff + some other subjects added in to make the degree more rounded (multi-skill)
how abt doing both, get the degree 1st, then get acca, increase yr value also -

not really.. i only got a diploma.. somemore result just passed one..
i earn about 3k per month.. it depends on the job.

Generally,good results most probably gets u a good position and a good pay.But whether good life or not,its up to u to define it.

hmmm..... if talking about business and administrative type of work maybe got degree better but if talking about technical work not necessary with degree will be better. I know quite a few people with diploma but gross income above 100K. People doing technical servicing

actually i work as marine engineer.. marine line sure good pay.. but the timing of work sux.. sometime start serviing in the middle of the night.. and must OT..
if you can tahan many OT.. can earn more than 3K..
but i prefer to slack at home

Let me try:
ACCA is a professional cert in Accounting. In some organisations, they recognize it as a cert higher than a bachelor degree. However, pls note, not all organizations "see" it this way. ACCA is also harder to pass...I have several frens who started off with his/her acca from yr2000, and till now, have yet to pass. Most are now starting level 3.
Bachelor (Accounting) is an easier route. And easier to pass. Finding job is easier. However, if u have a dip, best is work and study at the same time...you salary will increase with experience.
Australia bachelor can lead u to CPA --> u have to take Aussie CPA (5 papers) --> then take S'pore CPA (5 papers)
Having just a dip in accounting "limits" your growth. So what that you are earning $3k, those with a degree can earn even more. E.g. my ex-boss who has a bachelor in Accounting (He is 34 this yr) and he is earning $11k a month.
It depends what u want.

Okay...I forgot to add some other stuff.
It doesn't mean that good grades = good pay.
There are some companies that go after "good grades"..e.g. the big 4 audit firms in singapore.
However, there are some companies that don't look at ur grades but ur previous work experience.
Let's put it this way that, your fren who has c n d might have been really lucky to find a job that pays well.
E.g. I got frens who all have dip in accounting. Their salary range from $1.9k - $3.8k at current yr. So...it all depends on luck in the begining.
But most importantly..there are different types of "accounting"..it depends what kind of niche market u want to work at.
E.g. Accounting consultant, audit, mgmt accounting, normal AP/AR accounting, operations accounting, project accounting, etc. -
Only if the degree can get you a job. Check out what the market requires first before deciding if you want to get a certain degree. If not, you may find out at the end of the day that you just got yourself a useless degree. Check under recruits to see what jobs are available and what are their requirements. Also, if you are interested in a certain company and post, call them out to find out. After getting your degree, make sure you use it! Either your current job must regconized it (So, need to check before hand) or you will have to switch job to make use of the new qualification. There are some people who spend lots of time getting their degree and in the end was not recgonized by company and did not intend to change job (because maybe they didn't really like the idea of being an accountant). So, that person just wasted a few years. -
From what i know is .. even you got a degree in accounting , you still need to take a test or some courses from the main accounting which was from uk to be qualify to be CPA , but if you take ACCA directly .. after you graduate, you jus have to be register as CPA , cos ACCA is from the main accounting in UK. But as some of them here already mentioned.. ACCA is quite tough, so you got to be prepare for that.
Anyway, check carefully before you decide. Do whatever you think is suitable for you. -
