it depends on what catergory you're talking about here.Originally posted by sherlockian21:hey there..i'm pathetically underweight (my BMI is only 17.5). i heard from many ppl that you can actually gain weight or muscle mass by goin to gym, lift weights, etc. isit true?
anyone has experience with this?
if you're into gym workout/trainings for some competition you have to consult what your personal trainer or the gym instructor, well I've tried myoplex(protein) it's a daily supplement for me to perform better in the sports that I'm involve with.. it's not for me to gain weight but for me to perform better ok..Originally posted by fumih_81:well yes the scales will go north if u gain muscle mass....n there is weight gain. i heard of frens saying eating white rice or even those protein stuffs sold at GNC together with weight training can help. but you need to be regular at training ur muscles.
however not a good news to those gym goers like me who wish to see the scale go southwards..trying to reduce fat...but overall can see a slimmer figure...much toned up.
Yep yep.. used to be underweight fro 3 consecutive yrs.. den when to the gym.. now normal.. feel n look better..Originally posted by sherlockian21:hey there..i'm pathetically underweight (my BMI is only 17.5). i heard from many ppl that you can actually gain weight or muscle mass by goin to gym, lift weights, etc. isit true?

BMI is 17.5 & with Fats that can last for many winters...Originally posted by icebaby0:Yes, it's possible.
Muscles is heavier than fats.
If you work up enough, you can gain weight on that way...of course best to check with those who are gym experts..cos I am not one.
Like you, my BMI is 17.5 but then I am not as skinny as I look. I actually have alot more fats stored enough to last mi thru many many many winters.
As for me and I believe that you will only gain weight when you got married to someone, why? Because she will cook all your favourite food for you everyday and ofcoz you got to eat together with her too.. if you donwana gain weight or you wana maintain your weight, you have to watch what you eat and at the sametime you exercise, for ladies when they reach 30++ their hormones slow down and they tend to gain weight easily so ladies, I suggest that you keep up with your daily exercises..Originally posted by mancha:Don't worry too much about weight.
Look at your body and see how much excess fat you have.
These days when people say "I have gain weight"
They are actually saying " I have gain more fat"
When they say "You must not put on weight"
They are actually saying " You must not put on more fat"
Fat is weight to them.
That is misleading, because fat and weight are two different things.
Therefore even if you weight 100kgs it is ok, if you are mostly muscles.
And if you weight only 85kgs, it does not mean its better.
If you have a huge spare tyre around your waist, and your body is soft and jiggley, that is not ok.
