Selecting Primary School

Any parents here have information on Primary School selection? Other than proximity, what else needs to be consider? Where can I attain more information? Your advise is greatly appreciated.

U didn't say where u are staying- N, S, E or W?.
Each sector will have some good schs. Choose the ones nearer so u save travelling time. Try visit MOE website for the top schools in your area or ask friends' opinion (esp. those with kids). These schs consistently produce good results.
First of all look for a sch. with affiliation cos if your kid don't perform well in PSLE, the sec. sch. will still give priority to your kid. The advantage is that she will still have the same frens & same sch. culture in sec. sch.
Personally I prefer mission schs. cos they are also single sex. Less distraction & your kids don't have much opportunity to interact & have bf/ gf so early.
U might have a problem in getting your kid into good schs. U may have to move to improve your chances. I know of pple who did just that! -

Pri 1 registration is broken down in2 several different phases...
e.g phase eligibility wil depend on whether ur child has got any siblings studying in dat same school....if u dun...u look @ phase 2 & see if u've got met d requirements
If u'r usin a foster-parents' address to register (foster parent = grandparents of d child or siblings of the parents)....u nid 2 do a statutary declaration (S.D)... -

I'm dealing with Children educational Tools and Aids. Both for Pre-school and Lower primary school. Last year there was a big agenda about the new changes that the MOE is starting in 2005. Less homework less test etc. Therefore lLook out for primary that is making the new changes from MOE, the new system is about SEED program in school. Basically using Play as a way to motivate the children to learn. Do visit the primary school before enrolling your child there. I think affliation comes first, followed by volunteer service to the school and being a committee member.Then comes alumni links and so on..of course this is more for the mission schools.

Sorry to ride on your thread.I have a friend who is contemplating to move house so that can get better chance of getting a place for his daughter.I know it is every parents' wish to enrol their kids in a 'good' school.In fact what is considered a 'good' school ? Does it mean all the other shools are 'LOUSY'. IMO, as parents, are we branding our kids at such an early stage in their lives. It is tough being a kid nowadays.

??!!! primary sch no need to sang nao jing! Well, i wont say that if ur child enters the top primary sch, he'll definitely do better than the other kids in other "un-top" primary sch. Pray hard that ur child gets a gd teacher. dont tell me normal neighbourhood school doesnt have good teachers. im sure not. and dont convince me that only top schools have the best teachers. u want to sang nao jing oso must sang when ur child go sec sch lar.

Try Henry Park Pri Sch...my cousin goes there....when i drive past there the design look good esp the overhead bridge after the renovation
