finished uni last year, been applying for job, never even get one reply. aiyo! all my friends still in poly / uni / bumming around.Originally posted by gentlerock:I'm not really sure I understand. You finished uni and wanna immediately go to poly? Why? Wanna take a different course? Just out of interest? Or because you think its more lucrative? Don't wanna give yourself a chance with your degree specialisation? Or do you wanna take a different course just to avoid your parents' nagging?
Anyway, there are ultimately jobs for everyone. After graduation, I took almost a year to get my first job. I was relaxed about it....even when backpacking a few times before starting to look for a job. I started with a lower-than-average pay and worked my way up.
What about your ex-classmates in uni? Have they found jobs? (if they have not, it means the market is bad.....but if they have, it means something you're doing is wrong).
I know its stressful and not easy to do this.....but as far as possible, try to also enjoy and treasure your free time now, because when you start working you will forever have no break. Sometimes I look back and ask myself "why didn't I take a longer break before starting work?".
Haha...I know how it feels. I had nagging too, but not much. I also had friends comparing jobs, etc.....damned irritating, but I just ignore them. Well, I didn't stay at home much though...spent most of my time in the backpacking joints of Thailand.Originally posted by Bordeaux:finished uni last year, been applying for job, never even get one reply. aiyo! all my friends still in poly / uni / bumming around.
want to take a different course at poly, at least keep moving - do something with my life. bored man, stay at home. then everytime people ask "so how, find job oredi annot" gosh i really hate that question.
wonder how you enjoyed your break dude, i can't even stay at home in peace. feel like kenna transformed into a desperate housewife man.
Its the way you present yourself, many fresh grads mistaken the fact that they are entitled to a job automatically, its the school education that drives all these, the old saying study hard then got good life. Not exactly trueOriginally posted by Bordeaux:heya, have summink to ask you
do you think it's true sometimes to move one step forward, you have to take a step back?
just finished uni, so long already still no job. my so long is 1/2 year, but getting sick of applying and applying until i myself forgot what interests me
thinking of going to poly, but then too late to do that now, must wait another year... haiz
what would you do? would you be embarrassed? my parents will surely make alot of noise. hopefully if i go to poly next year i wont be the only old-y
allo kopisatu...Originally posted by kopiosatu:it doesn't hurt to take a step backwards (i think stepping backwards is the correct term), lets say you've studied your way through, got a degree...
but something inside tells you that you wanna go hands on with vehicles. you can sign up with ITE and get some hand on training with automobiles then move up from there.
its the stupid way our government portrays each institution... if you look at it from another perspective, you're not taking a step back, you're actually upgrading yourself.
so did you get your degree just because of peer pressure? its your future, your life, your job and your interest.Originally posted by Bordeaux:allo kopisatu...
yeah cos everytime i look at the recruit section, i am drawn to the technician traineeships more than anything else. but then you know... what will people think, what will everyone around you say... got degree then want to become technician. especially after investing so much $$$, then you feel like you let your family down.
i dont think there's anything wrong in taking up technical skills...
at least my younger sister learnt from my experience, she's going straight to poly/ite to take up a vocational skill.
eh dont make me feel bad leh... i know it was a big investment for my parents, but like kopisatu reckons, it was alot of giving in on my part, just make them happy get the degree and maybe they'll stop pestering me.Originally posted by Tuatau:Is there any course that interests you in the polytechnic?
Not that you shouldn't go for new courses in the polytechnic or ITE, but thinking from your parents' point of view -- it's like the time and money spent on your university education have all gone to waste... and a university education is a heavy investment these days.
