  I've been attracted to girls on the streets before and often feel tempted to ask for their numbers, but how do I do it? I'm not a butch or anything, I just look like any normal girl. The chances of rejection are very high, I know

  Is there any way to tell if the girl is straight or not?

  Don't ask them in a "i want to know u better" way but ask them in a "I want to be good friends with you"way .....besides how do u know u are les? some girls think they are les but they are going a phase in their life which makes them have a sexuality problem

  Buy a cup of dark coloured drink (not hot please)..walked past them and "accidentally" bump into her. Say no money now but will pay for her clothes to compensate..ask for number!! LOL

  I do agree with StarPuppy. Sometimes..being attracted to pretty girls doesn't mean you are a les. Human eyes are inborn with the capability to notice pretty things which includes girls and guys.
  
  It'll be a totally different feelings when you love someone. You don't love a person just because she/he looks good. If that is the case..then I think you can forget about it cause no beauty last forever. It's the heart that will stay beautiful till the day it stops beating.

  I know I'm les. I've been in a few r/s before with other girls, with the sexual part included. I knew one of my previous girlfriends as a friend before I realised I liked her.

  Anyway...it's only very rare cases that you'll be able to successfully get numbers from ppl you don't know..
  
  As for your other question about how to tell if the person is les or not...the thing is..does it matter? Sorry..it doesn't really matter to me. I don't restrict myself to just a small circle. If it's meant to be..it's meant to be even if that person is straight.

  Not really lah...depends on the person itself I think. I have no problem getting phone numbers most of the time. Just keep to this track of being a friend and show sincereity.

  By the way....not only butch can approach girl. I've got lots of friends who are beautiful and their gfs are just as beautiful. The most important thing is..how sincere are you in knowing them.
