Losing confidence...in studies and life

Ok, so i'm studying just now, but i'm starting to lose the will and confidence to study and pass my exams.
You see, I failed my O's last yr (I didnt even touch my books) and have to retake this year.
Many things happened last year and i'm starting to wonder what's my purpose in life? Why am I drifting here and there, I have goals, but they seemed to be wavering..At one moment, I want to go JC, at one moment, I hate academics and decide to go poly instead.
I feel very lost and I dun know what I really want. I want to go into mass comm/optometry, but whenever I aim for something that high,I couldnt get it..thus losing confidence day by day..
Can anyone tell me how to motivate myself properly? -

Perhaps you could confide in a friend? If you have a close friend.. Maybe you can try to ask him or her to accompany you and perhaps study together?

it is good that u have a goal in life. Ask yourself, if u are willing to go all the way to achieve ur dream of going into mass comm/optometry? do not go into a JC just for the sake of going Uni. I made that mistake a few years back. Even though I am in Uni now, I sometimes wonder what might have been had I chosen the Poly route.
Failing ur O-level is no big deal. What is important is if u are going to recover from that? Or are u just going to let that defeat u? -
I know, but it seems many things happen and I suddenly feel 'lost' and 'shocked'..i studied for a while ,but cant seem to get the social studies topic into m y head..aiyo, I dun have memory loss before leh ..

if u know what u really want...u will know what to do... -
start by setting goals that u can reach till the goals that are not so easy to reach. U will gain confidence and motivation along the way. For example, let's say u always get a F9 for Maths, then u start by setting a goal say D7, then to C5, eventually to a B3 or even A1. Even if u might not get A1, u have already said bye bye and are far away from F9.

I agree with everyone here.
I presume that you are about 17 this year? Well, you're still young! I've had my moments of doubt too and am probably still searching for what I want for myself.
Take your time, focus on the O levels first and decide which path you want to take when you get your results next year. If you have difficulty with a particular subject or even with studying techniques and memorising stuff, post it here and I'm sure someone can help you. All the best for the exams!

Everyone is gifted in different ways. You may not have discovered what your natural gifts/talents are (and weaknesses too). Maybe your teacher/mentor can help you. Take Britney Spears for instance. She may be last academically in her class but she's tops in singing.
When you're young, often you don't know what you really like to do/become.
So the onset is primarily trial and error. Expose yourself to do different things so you/your mentor can gauge what you really like and are good at. For example, some really like to sing, some swimming, some soccer, some modelling, some like to taste and cook, some like fashion and/or jewelry design, some like to draw/paint/craft, some like to study scientifically, some like to think business, some like to interact and deal with people (teaching, PR), etc.
Once you've tried different things and can identify say 3 areas that caught your passion and interest, learn them well. It'll build your self-confidence.
Not doing well in one thing doesn't mean you should lose self-confidence completely. Take time to discover.
As you move from Os to anywhere (poly, pre-U or U eventually), the one thing they're (school, employer) going to look for in you is what's your passion in. Is it just good grades and nothing else outside it or good-enough grades with other fond interests (sports, art, music, business, etc).
No one is a failure just because he/she failed to do something well. You may have some hidden talent waiting to be discovered and developed that far surpasses everyone else in your class, if not the whole of Singapore. -
Start from minor things to build up ur confidence. Really minor things. It doesnt even have to be getting a B4 for ur subjects or what. It can be just knowing that you can do something, like playing a sports or etc.

For now, learn to calm your mind. Any distractions that come your way, don't spend time entertaining them. You want to free up your mind to focus and concentration on your exam subjects and problem solving reasoning.
Eat well regularly especially memory-enhancing foods.
Sleep well regularly.
Avoid studying too late in the night resulting in stress buildup in the subsequent days.
Exercise mildly regularly.
You want to be well-prepared and your mind fully focused on your subjects on exam day. -

i have same troubles... sometimes i study like 7 out of 10 topics (aft carefully anaylsing)... basket 2 out of the 3 i didn't cover can appear in the paper whilst the 7 i covered appeared insignificantly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Originally posted by Depressed...*sigh*:Ok, thanks..so I shld study this two only ok? If I were you, I would drop (don't sit for it) my weakest subject and concentrate on my strongest subjects. So if there are 7 subjects, I take only 6.
Doing so frees up my time for the other 6 so I can be more confident in preparing and getting a better grade. Struggling to study and sit for the 7th subject (and knowing the outcome could just be marginal performance) could make me panic and affect my confidence in the other 6 subjects.
Of course, you don't drop English or Chinese (or any core subjects). History, geography are quite useless imo.
The weakest subject will be the weakest link to your overall results so might as well leave it out of the picture.
In preparation, consider having a buddy-buddy studying, motivation and testing system. Your buddy tests, motivates and guide you in your study and vice versa. Self-motivation is never easy. We need a helping hand once in a while.

its good to have goals....
set your goals and
work and aim for improvements, challenge yourself instead of comparing with others....
and after a series of improvements...you'll realise that you're much more nearer to your goal... -

btw, try this on yourself. Set a day and exact hour and simulate testing yourself taking a past-year exam paper for x hours.
The second time (3 days later) you do it again, take one Brands Essence of Chicken the night before and half an hour before the simulated exam starts.
If can, take American Ginseng too (those sold in loose shreds and cheaper also can. wash,chop some and pour boiling water into a cup and drink). On "exam" day, carry some (washed and dried b4 hand) (best chopped) and suck on it if can while you're doing the past-year exam paper. I presume you can chew/eat during exam. -

humans.... pure geog is easier to score (but min. requirement is you need to take combi humans also...) -
