Business or Technology ? ?

  I am doing a computing degree program in a university in singapore..
  
  and this program offers branches into 2 areas
  
  one is technology focus and the other is business focus
  
  technology is of course more details, concepts and calculations while business is more of the economic side of IT like information systems.
  
  i dunno want to choose which one.. what would you choose? help

  for ppl with no backgd like me..i think go for wad interest u more..if u sick of IT after all the studying part then choose business lor..if u tink IT still interest u n u find it easy to study then go for that lor

  IT. i think it has more specialized value. but its gonna be tougher.

  the trend for the programming aspect is to outsource....I think U do business IT better.

  technology - skill
  business - knowledge (theory)
  
  u can do the knowledge by urself if u wan, do more read ups n stuffs...
  skill is something which is better to b guided by the experienced...
  
  however....tech is gonna b tougher den business bcoz it wun b juz memorizin theory (read dead books).

  I would say Business.. Not to even out the voting but I think Business has better prospects as of now. IF say 10 yrs ago I would have said Technology..

  I am planning to do MBA after my degree. But thats if I still have studying capability left after this agonisingly difficult degree.. lolz..

  Business is the way to go!
  
  You won't regret. Tell me, how much a manager earns? How much a programmer earns?
  Go to do a search at jobsdb.com, jobs for programmer are mostly contract basis, foreigner can do far better than you, at much lower cost. Imagine China and Indian programmers...
  
  But for manager, you are the core for the company/department. Because this is the person who manage the programmers, which can buy from outside easily. The managers must understand the company business very well, operation process, financial details, and etc.
  
  I don't agree with people saying that IT skill cannot pick up by self-reading. What you learn from school now will be absolute by the time you finish your course, so, when you come out to find a job, most of the things you have to relearn.
  
  Business IT, you will have a hard time to start, if you talking about looking for a job for a fresh graduate. But you will have a better prospect.

  You should take Business, and if possible coupled with technical qualifications from the the related field that u are interested in. Like Microsoft certification etc.
  
  This helps you to have the business background and more credible technical certification.

  business focus will give you more choices in future....like to venture in project management.....sales.....biz development.....
  
  if u are keen in R&D, then u can choose technology focus.....

  no im not from PJC im a pure through and through poly hardcore.

  technical qualifications are hard sh|ts... damn tough and expensive too.
  
  i studied before for Sun's Java certified programmer but gave up halfway... haiz

  choose business.
  
  anyone can pick up technology skills.
  understanding the business logic and applying IT to solve real world situations is the difficult part.

  for me it's simple...
  
  i will suggest u choose business
  
  business gives u a chance to be ur own boss...at least ur equipped with the theory to set up a business of ur own...
  
  by taking up business..u can also take up the role of management first, get some experience then start your own company and be your own boss...
  
  for IT, its a hard process to be ur own boss...unless your a super pro...others started at a young age like 4-8...what gives us the edge compared to those ppl who started learning IT early??
  
  so the way i view it is that in IT, its hard to upgrade from an employee to an employer..
  
  whatever decision you make, you have to get one thing clear...ur interest...follow ur interest so that you will not have regrets...

  Depends on which uni you go to.. Some need 2 or 4 yrs work experience like those in UK and Australia. And some don't need any experience.. I think Singapore NUS n NTU need 2 yrs.. Not sure though..
