You don't need a mutual consent to break up a relationship. If one desire to leave and is determined... no matter how unwilling the other party behaves... it doesn't make a difference. I have known of cases where the party just 'left' without a word.
In the end... reasons are words you accepted as logics while excuses are words you accepted as illogic.
