To threadstarter,
Lemme share with you my experience with CL2 and not making the decision to take up CLB.
The main reason why i feel that doing the chinese language for o level and not CLB was because 1) I didnt want to lose face 2) although my chinese pretty much sucked like at 40+ or 30+ , with enough effort i know I will pass, so thus I stuck with CL2 and nv gave up.
It all revolves mainly on your confidence and hardwork that you wanna put in, if you feel that Chinese is simply a waste of your precious studying time and your not cut out for the language, do CLB. I can tell you that although i seldom passed chinese, My o level got C6, since i focused on the chinese oral more as i had more proficiency in speaking then in writing. Such that i spoke better, i got lucky and grasp distinction, thats why i passed in CL2. Currently, im in a poly and my course do not focus anything on chinese at all, so i didnt see a point in placing much emphasis on chinese, a pass was enough.
However if you inclined towards a JC, i would advise you to still stick with CL2 unless in JC you wanna do CLB again which i personally feel, no offence, a huge embarrasement.
PS Side note, my primary school chinese standard would have been one of the worst ones since we focus mainly on english.
Entirely, its your decision and choice, i studied hard for chinese and got a C6 and then i focused on the rest of my subjects for o levels and well, it paid off even though my Chinese is a C6, but the rest of my subject grades were much better.
