i think my family makes me who i am, for i have been living with them all my life (at least for 16 years, im only 17). the way that have brought me up, the experiences that i have been through with them, they mould and shape me into who i am today. they play the biggest roles in my life.
This is interesting. I think family only plays a certain extent on moulding and shaping you, but external factors like friends, study environment etc play an important role too.
I say that because my brother and I grew up in the same home enviroment, and my parents treated us with the same fairness. They are both English speaking and only picked up Mandarin when we went to primary school.
We went to the same kindergarden and same primary school, though secondary school environment onwards is different.
Anyway, the thing is that, my brother is more comfortable speaking in Mandarin and has more 'Chinese' Values than I do, in customs, in thoughts, actions etc, whereas I'm so called more 'Westernized'. This differs to the type of music he listens too, programs he watches etc.
Therefore, I would say that external factors like friends and environment do play a pretty major role as well
