  How can one ever be sure? We just do our best, everything's a gamble.
  - Go through a whole series of analysis to derive the best path to take.
  - The decision feels good , you feel comfortable and confident about it
  - Some 3rd party views and reassurance helps sometimes, feedback from your family, trusted friends..
  - and always, a back up plan makes you feel secure and sure LOL

  Hmm, it's more on confidence in own's capability to perform/make a certain task/work/decision.
  
  The lesser the confidence you have the more unsure you will be of your decision wor. Vice versa, the more confidence you have you will not be swayed or have any doubts on the task/decision you make/embark on.
