Which degree shld i get??

Hi ppl, hope u guys (n gals) can give me some advice on which uni to go to (NTU vs NUS)
I'm a graduate of TP... got a diploma in communications & media management (aka mass comm).. I'm already accepted by NTU school of information & communication to study Communication Studies (and if i get in, i'll most prob get some subject exemptions and graduate in 3 yrs time instead of the usual 4 yrs)
I also applied for NUS arts & social science, intending 2 major in English Language (like phonetics, semantics blabla stuff like that). This 1 will take 4 yrs. Status: processing
I hope to work in the govt sector after i guaduate, probably as an defence executive officer (DXO) in mindef, or sign on airforce to be a weapon systems officer (ok, i know both degrees are irrelevant for this la)
Which degree has better career prospects for my case? (i don't really intend 2 work in the media industry.. too fast paced for my liking) -

That's not good advice. Honestly speaking, not alot of difference between those choices. I would say NUS, simply because the market has a better perception of grads from there.Originally posted by goaler:dun study lah..

In any case, it is good that you have some idea where you would like to work in future. However, trust me that your career choice will change over time. -

how sure u will get a post in mindef??...skali they send u to ulu ulu camp...then u know..

DXO is Defence Executive Officer
mainly inhouse, desk job at HQ or units
design policies, campaigns, organise internal and external events, handle administrative matters...
can cover areas of marketing, HR, foreign affairs, communications
good to be good in english as it's general and u have more prospects....
perhaps u can take political science or economics as shared major for tt added advantage.... -
if u do govt job must have good degree if not forever stuck there

i would have chosen the NTU path simply beacause it sound more interesting and it suits my taste. English Language can be self-taught anyway.

Honours is useful, but on the job performance even more critical. I got an old friend in Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a 'lousy' degree but with his hardwork, he was chosen to go for a master's program in the States.
A degree only gets you an interview. The rest is up to you. Your personality is key to making the interviewer like you. If you know how to play politics real well and suck up to the right people without stepping on the wrong shoes, then you're set. -

So from my point of view, it really depends on your interests and strengths. Have a look at the modules for both courses and judge for yourself.
NTU SCI graduates do not necessarily have to join the media industry. With the skills and knowledge acquired, they can fit in easily into various industries be it advertising, marketing, PR, sales, teaching etc. It is afterall a communications degree. -
if u are in mass com and u are good looking, u should join MSU or man hunt hahaa! or star idol or whatever

I got inside news that dxos with degrees get very very very good pay. I'm being very very very modest when I say starting pay is 3K. As to why dxo jobs aren't very attractive, we all know why.

nay i dun think they pay is 3k tat high..probably around 2.6-2.8k

U are studying for the sake of studying ar?
So u have no intention to work in the media line la?
since0since u know 2 degrees are irrelevant to wat u want to do, then y waste ur time and money? Why not go and do what you want now? -
ANy dxos here can verify whats the pay of a DXO with 2nd upper hons?
