shift them to Cafe Casual Redux.Originally posted by M©+square:Should all the threads about NTU/SMU/NUS/SIM etc and what courses should i take, job prospects etc threads be consolidated into one thread on Helpdesk on Studies ?
Why not then?Originally posted by alexkusu:no.
I think...each one's needs for advice and guidance are different. Its far more complicated than to just lump them together. Furthermore some are lazy to read through previous old posts/threads.Originally posted by M©+square:Why not then?
What do you suggest?
Actually I've given MC's idea a thought before...Originally posted by alexkusu:I think...each one's needs for advice and guidance are different. Its far more complicated than to just lump them together. Furthermore some are lazy to read through previous old posts/threads.
I would think standard questions like 'Should i go NTU.......NUS.....which course? Job Prospects, salary....promotion....' or 'I got this result for my As...how...?' Kind of question should be consolidated into one thread.Originally posted by Devil1976:Actually I've given MC's idea a thought before...
My verdict for now is the same as above...
Though it might sounds good for them to be consolidated so that forumite in need of help can seek for their own references if they like... However, it's just like they can seek information anywhere else online too...?
The idea above is somehow like consolidating all the same related threads within Sgforums into a single thread... Somehow it just don't look very feasible to me at this point...?
I'd agreeOriginally posted by LazerLordz:shift them to Cafe Casual Redux.![]()
Yes, perhaps in certain general sense the replies are quite 'standard'... But one might just change their opinion from time to time (may it be due to personal preference / experience / or change in institute's polices or systems etc...)... That's just one way why forums are quite different from a bulletin board, otherwise we might just have something like that? One may try to consolidate all the information into a single thread, but that might have to be constantly updated and maintained by someone? Not to mention that the person doing the job might or might not be constantly updated with the relevant information, and is his / her opinion about what could be 'relevant' can be higher subjective to his / her personal view...? With that kind of effort, I would also think perhaps it might be better to have a forum under 'school / education' to address that? But of course, that just might not yield adequate response in a way?Originally posted by M©+square:I would think standard questions like 'Should i go NTU.......NUS.....which course? Shall be kept as individual threads. Because the nature of topic is different.
I've noticed that the Studies topics generally fall into similiar discussion category. And recieved similiar advices as well. Hence, productivity of advices and contributors are quite standard.
That's my view.
Correct as well!Originally posted by Devil1976:Yes, perhaps in certain general sense the replies are quite 'standard'... Also, having various threads encourage discussions on the topic... It's difficult to do different discussions within a single thread though at times they might have more information and opinions... But else, it could be quite messy...? The readers and the ones asking for advice might need to be quite selective... It would definitely be much easier to be 'selective' (for them to choose to read the other related threads) than to screen through a single thread for what they want... Take myself for an example is a person who is often reluctant to read through long threads.. That might in a way dampen response? But of course, that might just be me?
Under different threads, it would also be easier for forumites to provide the relevant form of information needed by that particular person and even stem off the discussion somewhere further...?
Because it's AA here. All cases should be treated with importance, unless thread was created with utter redundency or corss posted.Originally posted by alexkusu:do what FI does...Post "continue discussion here XXX.XXX>XXX and close the thread"

Agree with your proposition. How about renaming it as Tertiary Education instead of Studies or School/Education? This will encapsulate your argument nicely with Devil1976's. We can also use 80/20 rule for such paradox.Originally posted by M©+square:I would think standard questions like 'Should i go NTU.......NUS.....which course?
