Is asking for a stranger's phone number a good idea 4 r/s?

I recently heard from a few of my friends who got their girlfriends by asking a girl in the mrt stations or anywhere else for their phone numbers but it did not last long...
The thought of asking a complete stranger for a phone number completely turns me off doing it...i just don't feel comfortable doing that and it's just so awkward...
So guys,have you done this method and how has it turned out?
Gals,do you usually give someone who approaches you and says to be frens and ask for ur number?

actually nt a good way unless u met the person(take same bus/train) many times liao... the relationship is base on the person's appearance n charm or the person is desperate rather than u already know the person well enuff so it might not last long... above is generalize but for some it might differ...

Jokes aside, just do what ever you feel comfortable with. Thats why SG have normal bars and lounges to strike up a conversation with a stranger. -

Seriously..? Nope... I don't think it's really such a good idea unless you're a 'Tom Cruise look alike' or something... But 'technically' speaking, it's just another way of getting to know another person.... Whatever happens from there on can be quite limitless.. Though it definitely doesn't give you much chance to know each other well compared to most of other methods in getting to know a person.... Well... If you feel that you're really uncomfortable with the idea, don't do it then? You'll probably just look very awkward with quite a low chance of success (unless you're a 'Tom Cruise look alike'... <> )... Are you desperate? If you're not, use other methods you're more comfotrable with to know more members of the opposite gender....
Did tried such things before... But often I just didn't stay in contact... Most of them I don't even call or sms back...?
But yeah.. That was kinda like HISTORY.... <

I guess it depends on each individual's preference and your willingness to try out new things and probably break out of your comfort zone. If you sincerely want to find out more about the person I guess the person can feel your interest in her. There's no right or wrong. It takes guts to approach a stranger but it can be exciting. Again it depends from person to person. Remember, it's usually a guy's job to do the approaching so I dun think there's anything wrong. If you don't try, you have zero percent chance...but if u try u have at least 50% chance. Just remember to ask for contact number of course.
The downside is that the stranger might not trust you enough to form a long term r/s. Hey but at least you had the guts! Even a Takeshi Kaneshiro look-alike might not have the guts.

there's this guy who approached my gf (when i'm not around) on a bus and asked her for her no. even.. say wanna be frens. pestered too many times until when he finally smsed her, she can't even be bothered to reply or entertain such nuisance.

there's one more downside of approaching strangers. it makes u appear desperate..but u can also say it takes guts for the guy to approach a stranger. But if she is attached it's another story altogether. At least the guy takes action like a man. It depends on whose view u are looking from. -

I had a guy approach me on the bus once. He sat down next to me and asked for my digits. I never heard from him again after that.
So, it goes to show that it's not really worth it, unless you're looking for a one night stand.

And then if she reponds, also based on your looks.
