we still chat pretty often and these days she begin to bombard me with her many encounters with guy friends she met and how they asked for her for dates...
so anyway i told her off by telling her not to be such a attention seeker..
i know thats a very tactless thing to say and i apologised, but yeaa.

Sounds like she may be trying to get a reaction from you with these conversations. It may or may not be true about the guys. It's good you are outright with her about how you feel but the key is to do it kindly.
We can bring out point across without being harsh or using strong words.
Anyways, just be frank with her. Let her know, you reflected on what you said and not sure if it was harsh/strong. And that your intent was not to hurt but to express how you felt. I'm sure she will feel better and appreciate your honesty. -
