Involve yourselve more in the nuturing of the child and you will understand them more. For eg, capturing their first cry, first smile, first step all this will eventually helps you to bcome closer to the child.

no harm giving her more hugging....it helps to calm them....
not too worry about giving her too much attention...i give all my three children lots of 'hugging' , carrying and attention...they are not spoilt brat...as long as u teach them, accordingly to their understanding level, what is right and wrong....
let your wife and in-laws pacify her bah...don't deprive them of the joy of doing that....
do get involve in nuturing your child together with your wife...
