depends. i flew back from canada just to spend my 5th month and v'day with my gf. but i stayed for 2 weeks though.

If it is someone close to you like family or relatives, its worth it lor.
If it is someone you like and you miss very much and you think she or he will appreciate it, its worth it lor.
If it is just a normal fren, buy a $100 birthday card lah...u can save the rest of the $1120 and go eat KFC. -

and don't forget to get an extra-generous gift/s (perhaps 1 for birthday and the other for an apology) for him/her...something that he/she wants very much.
spend that money on the person. come back give the best treat/dinner or spend the whole day together with every expenses paid - by you!

Your best friend will feel damn bad, making you spend $1220 on a airfare for less than 12 hours at your intended destination. It might even become a point of contention if you two ever get into a future squabble.
$1220 is enough to pay for 2 months car installment, or a nokia n80 bought from a telco shop with loads of accessories. -
