I think the fact that u have pretty much known the ins n outs of ur area's or departments that u seem to loose the energy to go hard from beginining to end.U already know when to do what or what is to be expected from various situations. Or maybe the loss of interest due to your bosses or those above you can also be a reason.Originally posted by nick28:Hi,
Would like to get some advice from fellow forumites here... I am currently at the mid-career stage working in the health industry. I have been in this MNC company for more than 3 years now. When I first join the company, I was really hardworking and managed to promote to a higher rank in just 2 years. I learned from my colleagues that it would usually take 3-4 years before one can be promoted as it is the norm here. That said, after the first 2 years, I am beginning to slack. Not sure of the reason why but I dun really have the interest to work hard anymore. Even after I had successfully requested for a transfer, my attitude in the new position does not change.
Now, I am contemplating quitting just to rest and take my time to look for a new job and ponder over my aspiration. However, I have my financial commitments... such as car loan, and the upcoming mortgage loan. Also, I would not want to end up earning less than my peers.. as I currently command quite a good salary (I know this is kinda stupid and kiasu).
PLease advise... Thanks.
As my area is quite specialised, I may not be able to get a better job unless I dun mind the paycut. All these issues are vexing me. I really duno what to do. That's why I hope someone who had such experiences can enlighten me..Originally posted by BadzMaro:I think the fact that u have pretty much known the ins n outs of ur area's or departments that u seem to loose the energy to go hard from beginining to end.U already know when to do what or what is to be expected from various situations. Or maybe u are just bored of your job. But ask urself whether u can find a better job or not. In the end of the day its all about commitment to your work whether u like it or not.
I did try that but it doesnt work. When I am back, I would be able to work hard for a couple of days.. after that, it would be status quo.Originally posted by gerrykoh:Maybe u are suffering from burn-out.
U should take a vacation & come back energized!
That could be possible but is it advisable?Originally posted by pqr:can u take a pay cut to do something u like and then look for another source of income to pay the loans ?
u could have taken a pay cut easily to do things u like right?Originally posted by nick28:That could be possible but is it advisable?
Yah, that would be ideal but not quite possible...Originally posted by pqr:u could have taken a pay cut easily to do things u like right?
but u cannot bcos of the loan commited..
So u have to choose which has higher priority?
The loan (stick to the high pay u are getting) or be happier with the job that u like (but lower pay)..
Although the ideal is if u can get something u like with same pay or even higher than ur exsiting job
u r not a goner....Originally posted by nick28:Yah, that would be ideal but not quite possible...
If i get a job with lower pay, i could be more stressed afterwards with all the loans coming after me..
If i continue with my job, I could also be more stressed with all the deadlines coming after me..
Either ways, I am a goner... or am i Wrong???
It certainly looks like you are dying inside. Some people find the answer in religion but others do not.Originally posted by nick28:Hi,

Do you have enough $ for you to do investments which might support yuo for a while? If so, you might wanna try going on a long 'no pay leave' at the moment... (but of course, that would put your job at some risk also)Originally posted by nick28:Yah, that would be ideal but not quite possible...

Else, there's just no free lunch in this world.. You'll be LUCKY if you can be a job which you can ENJOY and be PAID WELL.... Many people really just don't enjoy their work at all.. (but they need to get paid) While there're still some other who get paid sh|t to do an equally lousy job... Getting the drift...?
There other alternative is to lower your standard of living...
Ask yourself: if, after pondering about your life and what you want, you get a job which doesn't pay you as well (and possibly with a lower job title), although it may give you greater satisfaction/motivation - will you be able to accept that? Perhaps the answer can clarify your issue.Originally posted by nick28:Now, I am contemplating quitting just to rest and take my time to look for a new job and ponder over my aspiration. How wonderful it will be to get a job I enjoy and at the same time earn good monee... I guess that is not likely for the time being.
I can lower my standard of living but I dun wish to bring my dependents down with me.![]()

Often no place is a perfect sh|t hole....Originally posted by nick28:Thanks everyone for your advices.
I guess I just have to go back to the workplace battlefield and carry on with my life. I see that money is still an essential tool of survival in Singapore. Until, I managed to achieve financial independence or get a new job, I would still have to slog in this company...
Any last advice?
