Freeters (Japanese: ƒtƒŠ[ƒ^[) is a Japanese expression for people between the age of 15 and 34 who lack full time employment or are unemployed, excluding housewives and students. They may also be described as underemployed or freelance workers. These people do not start a career after high school or university but instead usually live as parasite singles with their parents and earn some money with low skilled and low paid jobs. The low income makes it difficult for freeters to start a family, and the lack of qualifications make it difficult to start a career at a later point in life.
Freeters often work at convenience stores, supermarkets, fast food outlets, restaurants, and other low paying, low skill jobs (assuming they work at all). According to a survey of the Japan Institute of Labor in 2000, the average freeter works 4.9 days per week and earns 139,000 yen per month (ca. 1,300 US dollar). Two thirds of freeters have never had a regular, full time job.

personally i do know of some people in my social circle who may be classified as freeters.
for example, one not so close friend who lived in a neighbourhood estate, not so educated and for so many years, he has been job hopping in between lowly paid temporary jobs.
the other one was armed with a diploma but choose to work as a storeman.
both are in their late 20s
it's like losing the will to fight, unmotivated, lack of purpose in life.
you aware of anyone around you who might fall into this category?
