Working and studying..fear of outside..

Hi,
I dunno how to say this but few days ago, I asked my father for 500+ deposit for my private sch fees and he started to flare up and things turned ugly from there on.
Now, he is asking me to work and support myself in studying :'( and pocket money also going to cut..probably lesser and lesser. I am 19 now but the lesser and lesser im refering to is months..
I know he can't provide me forever but the thing is..is such a big jump! From just plain lazing ard at home, taking one part-time job this yr only and quitted 1 week later. It's a cleaner job and ppl, young or old told me is not suitable for me..it's for old or retired ppl..so I quitted.
I dun dare to take up sales..I got zero stamina and my speech isn't good. If you read my past stories here in the forum..I dunno..I have a fear of talking to ppl and crowds..and also, I am so afraid..it's like so sudden..just throw me into this..this adult world..
How do ppl manage to study and work at the same time? How to overcome this fear?? This really sucks but I dunno how come I faced this so soon

no i'm a girl and btw, im studying O's currently..so now..i'm thrown to look for a job now..

i have frens who come out to work at age 16 and are financially independent.. some even bring bread home.
there are many things u can do.. lots of retail jobs out there.. and many of them are flexible.. u can work after school. otherwise u can be a waitress or give tuition. -
pardon me for asking, but were you in any way, led astray when you were younger? Yr dad might be angry because the trust he placed on you were lost.
So, he may be getting paranoid whether the money is really meant for school fees deposits...
Or, in a better light, he may really wants you to learn independence and learn to take care of yourself.. Going to private school tells us that your studies is not good right? So, now that you have make up your mind to study again, you must prove to him that you can make it....
Of cse working and schooling is hard, but if he really really wants you to do it, no choice, just take a step at a time, and see how you can handle it...
but, there is no harm trying to sound him out again for money (for good use only)...

there are always admin jobs if u think ur speech isnt good...
well, u can always head for e job agencies, they can recommend u jobs..
e most impt is stepping out...e first step is always e most difficult...
prolly u are too used to b in ur comfort zone.. -

Go through agency if you have no idea on how to start. You can look through the classified ads too, but becareful of frauds and cheats in certain advertisments.Originally posted by jam on a bread:Hi,

erm. seems to me u r kinda spoon feed from young. Well, to be frank, the world out there is harsh. No matter which job you take, its not going to be easy. Since your dad cut your allowance and you cant find a suitable job, why not try to cut your expenditure.

Talk to your dad properly, man to man. Show some responsibility for own well being. Ask him why the sudden change and negotiate for an arrangement that you can be comfortable with.

tuition: easy to do, refreshes your memory/knowledge and pays well.
btw erm are you retaking your O's? -
Concentrate on your "O' levels first, after that apply for part-time hotel jobs- normally year end there are lots of vacancies for waitresses.
My daughter's fren managed to earn over $1K with OT- she saved it for her poly fees -
holidays, chiong with no life. can easily earn 1.8k in factory jobs.

lots of singaporeans nowadays are being spoon feed from young. how many actually started working before they finished their education? -
Hi threadstarter. I have a very similar view with darknessfall. I believe he want you to pay for your own studies because he want you to cherish the opportunity of your education. Probably he feels that you've never treated finance spent on education precious but taken for granted. At the same time it is good to be able to stand independently. My sister worked part time to buy things that she need even when she's younger than you and she's currently in Australia studying her degree with loan.
