im a retainee at a certain JC..last year, i was e chairman for a particular CCA but because im retaining, i've to drop the CCA.
but i must admit, i didn't do a good job as a chairman, so i was happy to let it go.
however, the worst part was, my CCA teacher is gonna teach the J1s this year! Everytime i look at her, i'd be filled with guilt. Im really hoping she wont teach me this year...or else i'll have a hard time in school liao.
and it wasn't easy having to study with younger people...the looks they give us...the thoughts they have.. but yeah, i try not to think about it...
*Sigh* i don't know, maybe i should transfer to a poly after February? or should i continue on? i think my results oso not THAT bad..
and oso..wad CCA should i join now...?? -
pat pat* Can you tell me what are you gonna do in future? What you wanna work as? Doctor? Tell us more about you so that we can give you more advice.

I understand how u feel I am 21 this year and i am serving NS with a bunch of 18 or 19 years old and my PC is juz 18 that's why i understand as for you working for others or planning to start a business i suggest that u go to a poly as there is more opportunity there for ya.....

If you wanna work for a company, maybe you should continue studying and get a degree in Business Administration. That will take up more time.

2 years ago when you take your O Level results, what plans do you have? Is going JC forced by your parent? I have knew of 1 friend when doesn't like JC but her parent forced her to study at a JC.

Last time I complain to my form teacher that my english teacher is not good at her method of teaching. The next day, my english teacher said, " 'someone' in this class complain that my teaching is not acceptable..." The next moment she broke down in tears. At that time she is pregnent. i enter JC out of my own free will.. actually is to help my parents 'save face'..cos my bro also JC de..my other cousin is poly..so sure will compare all of us de ma..=X so cannot lose out. -
Being a retainee is not the end of the world...
When I was in JC, I had a classmate who was a retainee. Nevertheless, he was a friendly guy and he mixed with my class well. After he got retained, he became very hardworking, and he got pretty good grades for his A-levels. Right now he is working in a financial company and he's doing pretty well.
Take the extra year as your second chance to prove yourself. Be friendly and mingle with your new classmates. Be positive, work hard, and don't let your teachers and parents down.

I had friends who retained, boys and girls... they stayed a year, still ended up in university and are all doing well in their life now. Retaining is not the end of the world, but whether you can pick yourself up and work harder for your 'A's this year is the more important thing.

Look, i think you have to acknowledge that you have a "facE" problem. You mention about having to face your CCA teacher, and that you felt JC1 newbies are giving u weird stares. Although I had not been retained before, but I know that when you are of a certain age, u got to be mature, especially if u go JC(not to say that those go Poly or ITE are childish). If they are going to be childish and talk behind ur back, or give u weird stares, then that's their problem.
But ask urself this: Are u really bothered by the fact that they are staring at u, or because you yourself are looking at urself at a different way? If you yourself do not mind the fact that u have retained, then what others say or feel will not bother u. Doing JC1 again may not be a bad thing, in fact, it may be the catalyst for u to do well, and get to a good Uni. I myself just scrapped through the barrel of JC1, and it didn't get me any way, because in the end, my foundation was too weak and even though I could get into NTU, I couldn't get the course I want, and so I had to go to a private school. Look at things in a positive way, and u will have a whole new perspective on things.
As for your CCA, I would suggest u join those type of CCA where membership is low, so that u can get a leadership position next year. No point joining a CCA which u like, but chances are that committee places will be hard to come by due to too many members. You, being the chairman of your CCA before, knows that having a leadership post will be more impressive than if u do not have. Sorry if I sound like the typical Singaporean-kiasu, but that's life, that's reality.
I will not suggest that u pursue whatever is in your heart, but to pursue something that u know that it will help u in ur future endearvours, be it poly or JC. -

i failed my GP during my JC years, as a result, i had to repeat JC 2.
I did not feel disgraced nor shame. Instead i face it with a positive attitude. I made new frens from the junior class and changed my atiitude in studying. I made full use of this "2nd chance" and scored really well for my A levels.
so, to TS, hope u will
face it with a positive attitude -

don't worry about it, i had two classmates who failed the As and repeated they both turned out fine. its only 1 year compared to the guys you are way ahead and luckier.
take the time and relax, learn mroe and think about what you want to do.
for all you know this 1 year delay might cause you to be more eager and instill more drive into you -
