It's a joke that when teenagers commit crimes, they are first identified by their sex, then age, then more often than not, their school. As if the school should be responsible for the ridiculous behaviours of teenagers. Blame the parents, I say, or blame the neighbourhood they are residing at, but don't blame the school!!
Regardless of whether it is a school, govt board, charity organisation, or soccer/netball teams, there are rules to follow, and whoever cannot abide by the rules should bear the consequences of wilful incalcitrance. First-timers may be forgiven, but if you're of the age when you are expected to be able to reason (and those from Fuhua were of such), please spare me the pathetic excuse of needing to be soft on them just because it's a school. Precisely because it is THE place where they are prepared for the world beyond their school gates that softness is NOT an option. -

kaes... the principle have no rights to cut a student hair.. unless they have the parents approval.even if they giv them warning they also have no rights. UNLESS ALL TEACHER IN SCHOOL CUT BOTAK. cause teacher must set a good exsample. for socks. ankle socks are too short. how bout they approve socks that are just above the ankles?then for undergarment... WTF the student parents pay for the school fees, books, uniform etc etc themselves and the school still care so much? are they in the position to care so much when the parents didn't even say anything? ask them to take them out without wearing any bra ard and walk here and there? when the school uniform is so transparent? can whole sg school uniform change to black. so not transparent. school side happi dun have to catch anymore ppl wearing coloured bras. student side also happi.. can wear any colour de bra. what would long hair,socks and bra got to do with the school reputation? long hair means ah beng or ah lians? no what... this doesnt means some auntie or sikn walking on the streets at singapore is ah beng or ah lians right? ankle socks? if don't wan student to wear, ask singapore to stop importing/making ankle length socks. make it banned like bubble gum in singapore. bra? make singapore onli sell white colours bra. no other coloured bra is allowed. whats wrong wif coloured bra? don't all the female teacher at school wear it? don't the female principle wear it? even my mums wear it... dun say my mum... i think even the principle's mum. so why in the world they care so much? they wan singapore ppl at 2050 all nerds?

no doubt a school has many functions, but there has always got to be flexibility in whatever decisions a principal makes.
but in this case, I can safely say the principal and students are both at fault. believe it or not, the DM decides matters with more reason than the principal herself. -
I think it's a half-half... I don't like the attitudes of some of the students these days...

You're right, the Principal has no right to cut the hair of the pupil. If I run a soccer team, and my player refuses to be with the team, and that may include the kind of hair style worn, then I don't want that player, no matter how good he is.
The teachers are setting a good example, by knowing how to dress at the right place, and at the right time. I'm sure these teachers had no 'hair' problems when they were pupils, and now that they are teachers, they are NOT BOUND BY THE SCHOOL UNIFORM. So unless these students want to replace the teachers, teach, mark, set exam papers, and get paid a salary, it is ridiculous that the pupils insist the teacher act, dress and behave as they.
It's just too bad that some of these pupils have parents who don't care about how their kids dress and act in public. But I'm certain these parents would not want their kids to be labelled as RULE BREAKERS, MAVERICKS, and downright defiant children who will bring shame to alkl the good effort of upbringing the parents have invested in.
The school cares that the pupils understand that when they step out of the school uniform, they can wear whatever they want, however they want, and whenever they want. But it is not fair that the school's reputation is dragged through mud, and the Principal's name is ripped apart when the pupils that walk out of Fuhua's gates are considered as having come from a fashion school. There's already Nanyang Fine Arts for that, and I don't think all of Fuhua's students would want to be associated with that kind of reputation. Some find nerds cute, and they have their own appeal, but they still follow uniform rules. Do these kids?
Aunties and uncles, and people of other religion walking down the streets can wear whatever they wish, and have any kind of hair style, because they ARE NOT STUDENTS of a school WITH A UNIFORM DRESS CODE!!
ANd that argument about SIngapore needing to ban stuff before it is not used is absurd. Singapore bans pornographic media, but it's even viewed in school when the teachers are not watching in the computer labs, and some even bring their grandfather's girlie magazines to school for loaning. I hope these girls with colourful bras realise that they are just asking for unnecessary attention, from boys and lesbians alike. Should anything untoward happen to their bodies, serves them right. Their faces and bodies should be sent to STOMP, and put on the blogs so that they can get the publicity they so crave for, by vitue of the fact that they want to stick out like sore thumbs!! -
I pity the secondary school students nowadays, but when i was still in secondary school days, i go to school, as and when i like, and i only go to school for two days, monday and friday, reason being, i hate my school, thats what i told my form teacher
