Worries in poly

Hi guys I hope u can help me out here
Since the o lvl results are around the corner, i will registering for polytechnic soon
Since I am interested in computers, its is very likely i will choose a engineering course.And it is very like i will chose TP due to the fact it is near my course.Unfortunately, i fail the attend the open house and therefore do not know much about the courses.
My first worry is since there are so many type of engineering courses, i do not know which is suitable for me.
My second worry is since i do not take take A maths in sec sch, I fear i will not be able to cope with the mathematics modules.I heard of students getting kick out from poly cos they fail maths modules.
I hope that u guys here are able to help me. -
don't worry about not taking A maths in secondary school. there are many others who are in the same boat as you. as long as you study hard, you shouldn't have a problem. your lecturers would also go through the basics of A maths from scratch.Originally posted by VisualEx:Hi guys I hope u can help me out here

my advice for you is that don't wait till your second or third year before putting effort into your studies because by then, it'll be too late. start studying from the very first day of school. i'm not saying 4 - 6 hours of studying, just perhaps 1 - 2 hours of reading through and revising. Try to get as many As as possible to assure you a place in UNI.
i slacked through my first year in poly and i'm starting to worry now. even if i get straight As from now onwards, i still wouldn't be able to get into a local UNI. regretted

And... Are you interested in computers' hardware or software? If it's software then you'd probably be better off taking IT instead of engineering. -

aniwae jc is out of touch cos i onli took 6 subjects and since my chinese gt c6 already. i doubt i will be able to get straight As for the rest of my subject -

try to look at the optimistic side of things. if there are people who can still stay on without Amaths background and even get into a Uni, ignore those who got kicked out.
what's your personal preference and which poly are you intending to go?
there are courses such as, E.E Engineering (not reall sure what it stands for), Electronic Computer and Communication Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechinical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and perhaps some more that i might have missed out.

not to worry so much dat u do not have A maths foundation, all you need is pay attention for every single lectures and practice ur tutorials, should ber able to surpass those who even have their A-math but too lazy and slack.

erh.. even though u like computers, wat u wil be learnin in poly will be different.. i am curently in NP's electronic computer engg.. and my results are droppin like nobody business..
electronic computer engg basically learns abt circuits, programming, soldering ( hands on ) and other stuffs..
i went into poly with my a maths F9.. for the first yr i pass quite wel.. but the 2nd yr, i almost buang liao..
heng now 2nd yr 2nd sem no more maths liao.. -

Even if you fail to attend the open house, there's always something called a website. Not as much info is available, but still serve its purpose of finding out what a course is about. There aren't many computer engineering related courses in Singapore, so it's quite easy to narrow down the whole list of courses that you are interested in or suitable for. Just go to the polys' websites to read through their courses summaries and their course modules for a brief idea on what you will do. The prospectus will also list it.
As for A Maths, it's not required, but it's a plus to have and to do well in it. Students aren't being kicked out for failing the Maths modules, but having to repeat to get a pass in these modules as they are required. There's not much you can do about it, except to pay attention and practise hard. Google isn't your best friend in this case, the friends you made in poly or secondary school will. -

u prefer hardware or software? if software, go into IT.. if hardware + software == engineering.. i think maths in poly level is still ok, as long as u practise the tutorials. one thing to note, more maths as in calculas in engineering.. but if u plan to go to uni next time, in computer engineering course, think u choose computer engineering in poly will fit better.
