Hi,
You haven't give much information about your school. Are you from an all boy's school in the first place? (I'm not stereotyping, but the tendency is higher.) Before you dispel him as a gay, you have to know a few tell tales sign. People have different ways of expressing themselves, sometimes to a certain sense that you may mistaken the person is gay/lesbian or maybe he treats you as a very good friend.
1) Think of the relationship between you and him. How close is it? Do you guys always talk anything to each other? Does he always stick to you only?
2) Do you notice that he's trying to flirt with you?
3) Those actions that you said, do they happen in conjunction with anything suspicious, say when he's trying to flirt with you?
4) Ask anyone, including girls, who knows him, does he do the same?
5) Did he mention more things that are related to man instead of woman? Meaning take notice and make compliments...
The best option is not to label him as a gay, even though that he may be a gay. I don't know how old are you and him, but in a conservative country like Singapore, he will be isolated and may have adverse effects when growing up. If you know the truth, keep to yourself, and lead everyday life.
If you are still uncomfortable by his actions, perhaps keep a distance with him, and try not to be alone with him. Stay with your group of friends. Or do what stonned had said, tell him directly, but in a jokingly manner, you know.
Sometimes, isolate gay people(not saying your friend is one) may not be the best option. They have their own rights as well, they are still people. It's the society fault that leads us to discriminate these people, with wrongful depictions of their lives. Some may lead a havoc life, but most gays/lesbians are generally friendly, and most importanly, they still need friends of the same gender, as well as the opposite.
