On top of what the other forumites have already advised you on.. I only wanna add... You should try to write too. You can just start with almost anything. my english oso quite poor but chinese not bad.
to improve english, start by reading books and newspaper. watch more chinese series drama bcoz its all english substitled and its all about dialogue which is useful to your conversation with others.
tune in ang moh radio channel, try to communicate in english.
to improve chinese, read up the dictionary & newspaper frequently. tats how i got my A1.
