NS just sucks. No matter which vocation you're in there's definitely complains. Zhuobolan complain.. burn weekend complain.. stay in office complain.. all got their diffrent form of shyt. If u really don't like what you're doing, can try to following:
1) visit the MO until they recognise you, complain about things like knee pain/back pain. They tell you that they checked and say it's ok liao? Just say still pain..
sure downgrade! ppl say u keng just heck care! In NS, those who know how to keng = smart 
2) break your leg.
very pain though
3) act as if you are mentally unstable, make them think you're crazy, might be able to completely siam NS even, got living example
4) say u got family problem, something like ,' my papa and mama always not in singapore, only got me and my granny at home.. need people take care, need to go home everyday and sleep one' pls cook up a super good story!! end result: everyday stay out! woohoo!

if u cant even tahan this how r u gonna work next time? try working 12 hrs almost everyday and u know wats really shack.

NS is not forever, you only have one year plus of liability left, just grin and bear with it and it'll be over real quick.
Other vocs are also xiong in their own way. I was also quite depressed when I got my posting, but having buddies who went through the same sh!t with you and are there with you kinda takes most of the depression out. Think of the good things that can come out of it, not just the bad ones. Besides, what doesn't kill you will make you stronger. -

try to cope if really like after a fews months cannot really get into the flow ,you better start seeking help through the proper channel...SAF hot line is one but i doubt it will help...

heh im an fds man too, but please don't think RP life is shiok, i had that conception when i got my posting was like "woohoo!"
but the truth is FDS always have manpower problems, i dont know about other bases, but my base its common to stand for 8 hours straight, with sbo rifle. its not physically xiong, but actually mentally. i ever kenna 1 man checkpoint stand 11 hours straight. (my friend has did 24 straight, checkpoint jumping) you can hiong and sit down of course, but if u get caught = extra. repeated offence SOL.
for airbases, rp's still do night duty, so you can finish duty at 1800 and wake up at 0200, its hard to wake up in the middle of the night, for FDS the entire NSF days your body clock is screwed.
for my base a weekend mount of 72 hours its common to clock up to 28-30 hours, so you rest almost the same hours you do duty. but rest time also counts in the time to walk back to the HQ and send ammo and arms, and bathe. etc so it eats into your rest time.
its a vocation that you are easily charged, screw up with the ammo sign in out = charged. lost round (which has happened) DB.
let unauthorsied people into base = charge, its a seems like a simple mistake, but its easy to screw up. after a few hours standing there its easy to drift off.
but of course dont think im saying its some super elite vocation, the fact is we are overtrained guard dogs. after 3 months of a pretty tough course, all we do is stand, i think its depressing too at times.
but poster think on the bright side, when we come back for reservist we get it good by just standing there. instead of chionging around in the forest. just tong for your 2 years. -
Wow, it seems that there are many FDS people in this forum. I used to be from FDS in TAB. NS is only 2 years. Put it this way, you spend 3 months on BMT, 3 months on FDS training. You are left with 1.5 years doing RP duty. Take away your off and annual leave, you are left with around 1.25 years.
After 7-8 months of doing RP duty, your new bird will be coming soon.
I disagree with the the comment "rp vocation is one of the most waste time one. you dont learn or do anything productive"
Doing RP duty in TAB - you learn to daydream to pass your time. Once you got used to daydreaming in NS, you will find never find another boring moments in your CV life.
FDS is also known as forever doing saikang as we are constently doing saikang -
for my base its either "foever do saikang" "fats development squardron" or "food duty sleep" -> cos thats the routine"
or "fat dragon squardron" our CO's callsign is dragon, and the previous CO was slightly puffy, but a nice guy :X
