I want to be a kindergarten teacher

Am thinking of taking some courses, most probably a Certificate in Preschool Teaching by Montessori, but is such a job viable nowadays? (ie at schools such as PAP, or neighbourhood kindergartens, etc) I love working with children and have the patience to do so. Would appreciate honest opinions or comments.. Thanks for taking the time to read this query!

i used to work in a childcare centre
the kids are from pre-sch to K2
pte childcare centres u can earn more than PCF ones
usually teach for half a day (morning)
in the afternoon u stay back to do some preparations for next day's lessons like doing artwork and craftwork.......usually can go off about 2pm or 3pm....
u gotta be bery lively and cheerful and able to capture kids' attention..
physically fit too bcos there will be alotta running around...prying fighting kids apart...being on the alert to make sure the kids do not stray or hurt themselves......
and if u are working in those pte ones, u gotta climb up and down 3 stories..
u will get a lot of satisfaction from work if u relli like kids and see them learn and grow gradually.....
some kids are bery attached to the teachers... -
don't mind if i ask, will there be age or gender discrimination if i choose to work for those private ones?
heard from friends that they only prefer older women, or women only, because they don't trust guys to take care of children? -
not easy to teach little kids...i like teaching, but i dun tink i will be good with little kids...
sigh nowadays so hard to find good teachers, my class wreaking havoc bcos of the new teacher's attitude
teachers need to be patient and passionate about what you are doing, otherwise it will show

the one i used to work got young girls.....poly grads or those waiting for A level results.....teachers are mostly in 20s and early 30s......the cook.....auntie in her 40s tt cook excellent char mee.....
there are other posts within the centre like tuition teacher, IT teacher, music teacher......these can be males........
handy to have males ard.......can help in the labour work..........hehehehehe -

I think teach Secondary schoo or JC/MI is the best.. But that's my opinion lah... -
definitely no problem for u if u love kids and have the patience to work with them. Dun mind if i ask if u are male?
If so, then i think its not a good idea. Parents definitely dun like the idea of their young children being taught and taken care by male teachers.
Esp some kindergarten and child care centres do bathe their students.
By the way, kindergarten teachers must also be prepared to clean up vomit and poo poo everyday... -
TS, if you really have the passion to do it, i think you should give it a go, regardless whether you are male or female

BUT some of them can be really, REALLY irritating.
you definately must have the patience, even when you're damn pissed off you must still maintain your cool. -

Why not? Ask FI for more info as she had 1st hand experiences here. Its good to see you wanna pursue your dream. I have a long way to go wif regards to mine. IF no one wanna support you, I support you.

im currently in np and i know that my school offers a dip in early childhood education which graduates may find jobs in pre-school and take up jobs regarding young kids.You might wan to find out more from ngee ann poly webbie if u r interested...
