Mind Mapping How?

Hi! I want to pick up some self improvement stuff like mind mapping or something. I tried reading " The Mind Map Book "but don't really get it. Is there any more simpler book on it?

I know Adam Khoo is not very popular in sgforums..
but I think i'll recommend you his book "I am gifted, so are you!" -
I'm talking about the one from Tony Buzan

I think mindmaping helps you remember using a top down big picture approach. But sometimes it's a bother to use it.
However if you can't catch that method, it may also mean that you are a "details approach" person, --learning by looking closely at the details. A classic example is learning A maths in secondary school.
In A maths, we are taught the mathematical techniques like differentialation, integration, and those funny equations. This is teaching in details. However we often do not see how these differentiation, integration techniques apply in the big picture, as in how do we use it. In school, the question could be y=2x + 16x^4 Find the dy/dx. This just tests us on the technique, a details approach.
It is only in poly/uni when we were taught to apply these techniques to then do we see the big picture. Like calculating flowrate equation in a wind tunnel (mechanical engineering), calculating the rate of growth of a certain protein frame in some funny accelerator solution (biomedical engrg).
So if we were trained from young to look from details approach we will not be used to looking down from the top (mind maping). We usually do it from the bottom to the top (working the furthest branch first to link all the way to the topic).
However, mind mapping trains us to look at the big picture, then deeper and deeper into the details.
Having said all that (this is the most important part of my reply hehehe), first we have to REMEMBER and be AT EASE with using the mind mapping technique before anything can work.
SO practise practise practise, until it's a second nature. -
Mindmapping gives an overview. Personally, I can get never get an overview of anything. I prefer details over summary.
If you can't understand overviews, you might want to start on something opposite.
Or if you insist, get the Tony Buzan book, read it slowly, and try it out. -

Mind map can make both left and right of your brain work at da same time.
Yes Adam Khoo's book does help alot
Mind map can also help student to review their summary , notes, for their exam , save time , dun nid to flip the pages ,read highlighted points etc etc...

Teach you a good way to mindmap..
1. Headings/sub-headings/words all 3 must have different colours
2.Simple pictures, preferably distinct from each other for some points
1.If you want to summarize the whole chapter, squeeze all the summary into one piece of A4 paper.. although it wont look like a mindmap with all those handwriting, you'll remember it better as to you, its just one piece of paper.. thats how the mind works heh. -

woo mindmap is fun....bt to apply mindmap abit tough... i did mindmap when sec sku.... to apply it to subjects...i tink the best sub to apply is humanities liao....
