works end on 9 July ( by contract)Originally posted by viciouskitty74:Can you be ore specific.
very hard to plan for you when your details are so sketchy.
Dates to be in USA.
Dates that work is completed in USA.
Dates your friends are travelling.
Location of that place and what airline? Depart where, and transfer where?
You do know that USA is 1 day later then Sg?
Bite the bullet, do the IA, do whatever is necessary and graduate asap...Originally posted by Isis:I need some advices here.
I'm going for industrial attachment in the coming semester on 9 july and after this IA thingy, i will be graduating.
And my contract with this companies in USA end on 9 july. ( work and travel program which i spent alot of the moneys on it )
This means i can't get back in time and i really really want to travel with my friends now. I aso have difficulties getting out of the place where i am working in as my transportation is not provided for me to get out of the place. In addition, if i am leaving earlier, i will be traveling alone to get to another state to get onto the next flight back home. I'm kind of terrified of it.
I have emailed to various in-charge regardinf the IA, in the end i was told to find my way back.
so do u think i should go ahead and reject the IA and waste there semester school fee or grab the chance to travel?
IA is more important cos it leads to your dip.Originally posted by Isis:I need some advices here.

You need your priorities set right.
From the above, you can tell everyone recommends that you come back to SG, complete your IA and get your diploma. I would do.
To say that you are terrified of flying alone, you got to be kidding everyone. When you spent money on a work travel program in USA, but dont dare to do flight transfer to come back sg to complete your IA?
Employers are not going to be very impressed if you do say that at a interview. Afterall, it shows a lack of consideration for what is truly important. (Completing your contract & making the effort to complete your diploma plus lack of capability to travel on your own, making your own decisions and to see things thru except for whatever is fun for you and your friends.)
Think about it. As a employer, would you take on someone like that?
Your work & travel program has the unfortunate timing to clash with your start of your IA.
And even if you do make it back to Sg in time, your body is sure going to be difficult to adjust to the time zone and it takes a week to recover.
Your best option I can see now, is to come back as schedule, but postphone the start of your IA. Contact the IA company in question and explain to them that you are going to be flying back to Singapore for the IA from USA. And you liked to push the start of your IA to a week later, so as to get over jetlag.
Please tell them you truly wish to complete your studies and graduate with them as your IA sponsors or whatever you call it. Surely they also would not want a drowsy sleepy IA student on their premises even if you stretched yourself to make it back.
Or. If you have not start the work travel program. Postphone that one instead.
You have choices. But its your decisions that affects your adult life. So think about it.

Why San Fran? Why not LAX? Or LA for that matter? Why need 4 days buffer timing? You are flying east, you need more buffer timing in Asia to get over jet lag then you need rest from road lag at San Fran. You planning to chit chat, talk, play card games and keep yourself awake on the 24 hourss flight back home?Originally posted by Isis:no wait, i haven't got my IA company yet.
I tried to postpone it via school, not successful.
I am in USA now. The thing is i have to hitch a ride out of here and take a Greyhound bus alone to San Fran and to find my way to a nearby hostel and to stay there for a few days ( buffer timing). I am terrifed not becos of flying alone -_-"
I think money can be earned back but oppportunity with the right company and timing> no. i have spent alot on the work and travel program and it seems wasteful of me not to spend and earned out of it. However, i aso want to graduate and take care of my mother too.
