I guess this depends on what kind of relationship you and your partner have. If you have the intellectual kind of relationship or the spirital kind, then maybe sex is not what it takes to make the relationship last. But if you and your partner is the fling kind of relationship, then I guess sex is one of the main thing that keeps the relationship going.
Personally, I feel that sex is a bonus to a relationship but not an obligation. We should not feel that we need to have sex with our partner just to prove that we love them. Sex should be something that we allow it to happen naturally in our relationship...and of cos, both party must be willing and comfortable with the idea.
I believe that some couples can last for years without having a sexual relationship...and I guess this is based on alot of mutual respect for their partner as I believe most gals will be more concerned about maintaining her viginity.
Nevertheless, I do know of some jerks who go find other gals for sex becos their gfs do not want to have sex with them. And being the 'lover/mistress' of such guys are quite pitiful too cos they are treated as not only a spare tyre...but also as a sex toy which is only required when the guy has the needs.
