Feeling lonely at times is perfectly fine. It's normal. Man was never made to be lonely..... That's why God created Eve after Adam!
But if this lonliness feeling is always there, then you need help!
Sometimes, this problem arises because of a lack of self esteem too.
Just be yourself.... If others don't join you, you join them....... Don't just hide under your own shell. When you open yourself to others, with time, people will accept you. Things take time and you gotta give yourself time but you have to open yourself to others for others to open themselves to you. It's a reciprocal thing. Don't rush things. Time is on your side.
And don't worry if you don't look like a million bucks or even a thousand..... People your age tend to be very appearance-conscious. That's all right. You're growing up mah.... But it's better and far more impoortant to to find your own style - one which you are comfortable with. Learn to carry yourself well. This will set you apart from others as you develop your own unique character.... -

actually appearance play a small part in the role but i think that if u are friendly enough
and if u are quite interactive and talkactive and known the person well...
then it should be no problem...
if u are worry about ur appearance, try to improve it and ur self-esteem will increase...
if the situation did not improve, try talking to someone and be friendly but not over-friendly...

They would talk to me only when they need help in their homework or for project work stuffs. Im not one whos crazy for special attention from girls but at least a hi will make my day. But some of them walk past me without initiating a hi or bye while im walking to or leaving from school. I felt so lonely. Im shy when comes to communicating with girls, but i have tried to open up by cracking some jokes when we meet in project work.. but they laugh over it and its back to square.
for the extract above, i'm exactly in the same case as you, but it's in office, not school.

seriously, i can say that appearance doesn't play much in this, although it'll give you an edge at first.
for example, i'm a handsome guy but too dao.....at the beginning, these girls will be like, come and talk to me etc., smile, find things to ask me or other things to talk about....but i keep on being so dao, serious and stiff on the surface and now they find me crappy and pissed off at me liao.
sigh. and those guys who're ugly but friendly gets all the chicks.

One of the easiest way to build your social self is to find a passion and make like-minded friends. Probably, you need friends who have patience and are compassionate, as facilitators to help you get out of there self-conscious shell.
Or talk to your school counselor.. to help you deal with it and making an inner-transformation. -
