  DAting means two parties meet each other with a common purpose of getting to know each other better to consider entering a steady relationship, or the two are already in relationship with each other. Hanging around with friend of the opposite sex is just platonic, it is as good as you going out with your friends of the same gender.

  nope, as long as the girl doesn't request the guy to be sweet, insinuate that he should pay for her expenses or both of them go to somewhere obviously romantic.
  
  Speaking from personal experience, the line i draw to differentiate platonic outing and dating is when the girl is angry with the guy for not paying detailed attention to her mood and her appearance, and she wants him to pamper her. As a guy, I never attempt to pamper the girl or pay detailed attention to her because she isn't my date. If she insinuates or complain, I will actually ignore her for a few weeks and she stops whining about it. The point of a friendly outing between 2 individuals is just enjoying the ease and comfort of each other's company.
