scoring well in comprehension?

im jc1 this year..and i suck badly at comprehension.. does not matter for GP or chinese..for gp, i still failed my comprehension even though my teacher had gone through with us.i just cant seem to comprehend the huge chunk of words given in the passage, and i sometimes dont understand what the question is asking? my friends see my answer and said why your answer so weird? today my teacher showed us the answer scheme and i found out that my answers for the questions showed no relevance to the marking scheme
But however, i can manage essay writing for GP.. passed all of them so far.. same for Chinese
anyone has the same problem as me? can someone give me some advice? -
cannot teach. comprehension is a test of understanding and to some extent requires IQ-thinking.
i guess u have to read more books. gd books; not Harry Potter i mean; or reading the newspaper daily. -

3) read dict

for compre, dont believe what others say, to read th passage MANY times bfore attempting the qns. tt's silly.
practise more compre will help too. u'll get the hang of the technique.

Having comprehension problem may be due to either your vision or your ability to reason.

Comprehension is the understanding and interpretation of what is read. To be able to accurately understand written material, need to be able to
1) decode what they read;
2) make connections between what they read and what they already know; and
3) think deeply about what they have read.
One big part of comprehension is having a sufficient vocabulary, or knowing the meanings of enough words.
Note: Your C6 score in English probably is one factor you don't do well in Comprehension.
Readers who have strong comprehension are able to draw conclusions about what they read – what is important, what is a fact, what caused an event to happen, which characters are important. Thus comprehension involves combining reading with thinking and reasoning.
If vision is not the problem,
you can,
Use outlines, maps, and notes when you read.
Read stories or passages in short sections and make sure you know what happened before you continue reading.
Ask yourself, "Does this make sense?" If it doesn't, reread the part that didn't make sense.
Read with a buddy. Stop every page or so and take turns summarizing what you've read.
As you read, try to form mental pictures or images that match the story.

My teachers always tell me to read the questions first before reading the passage itself. At least you'll have a good understanding of what the passage is about before you even start to read it.

I don't read the passage before attempting. Read the AQ qn, then do the compre qns as per passage reference per question. After u attempt the all the compre qns, then underline the pts relevant to the AQ and/or summary.

most probably you read the question and infer too much. try taking one step down and interpret the question as simply as possible

Don't jump and answer the question at the first reading.
Think for a while.
Do a second take.
Put the box on the table by the window in the kitchen
is an ambiguous sentence.
It could mean any of the following:
1. Put the box onto the table that is by the window in the kitchen.
Put the box / on the table by the window in the kitchen.
2. Take the box that is on the table and put it by the window in the kitchen.
Put , the box on the table / by the window in the kitchen.
3. Take the box off the table that is by the window and put it in the kitchen.
Put (the box on the table by the window) in the kitchen.
Read slowly and think. -
As far as I know, JC comprehension is a mere paraphrasing exercise. Yawn.

funny that U can clear compo but cannot clear compre...U do know what U are writing when U write essays right?C6 for 'O's and then doing GP for 'A's...emm...U better start thinking whether U want to spend more effort on GP...if not after JC2 U dun have a place in uni liao.
