i've checked the letter and i tink the compensation only kicks in when i start work there.. nothing abt turning back at this pt. actually my bigger concern is the bad rep i'll get from doing this.. izzt very serious.. wat if >touchwood< it somehow reaches the 2nd co... and wat do i actually tell the first co... the truth or some lame excuse?
as for the contract vs perm thing, the benefits are the same... just tat it's renewed yearly subj to performance... abit stress leh...
Dun stress yourself too much, contract jobs are on the rise, sooner or later all shall be in contractual work, it just a matter of time.
You hv no issue on rejecting of contract when you have not started any work, nothing is lost except that both side wasted time. Job market is like commodities, you sell yourself with whatever you have, the market will judge your value, mostly the one who give the highest price with good benefits lured you in. Then it all up to you to perform, do not worry about contract or permanent stuff, once you work smart and hard, people will notice you, very importantly is to look at thing professionally, you work, they paid, you no work, no body paid you, as simple as that. Be professional with the right approach to working, your value will rise as time goes by, by then, you may jump ship for better benefits and paid.
Under the employement Act, an employer cannot penalise anyone out of their employment/payroll, they are not the enforcer, that is why in the contract that you sign, there cannot be a penalty for cancellation. In reverse, ask yourself, what happen if the employer suddenly do not wish to hire you even if you signed the contract with them??. Same, you cannot do anything but just say, Damn!!! WTH company is this.
Happy working
