I need your Point of View as an outsider in regards to the subject.
I am working in a pte ltd company with the strength of 15 ppl. 10 of us works in the office while the rest works in the stores.
Recently, I discovered that all my sent and received emails were secretly received by my boss. I believe a software was installed to allows my boss to 'hack' into my emails, some of it are strictly for my eyes only and sent by my customers.
My question is:
1. Is it ethical for a boss to do what he is doing?
2. Is there a regulation that I can show to his face that says it is wrong to do it?
3. What kind of action should I take to prevent my emails from being 'hack' by my own boss? Besides quitting of course.
4. If I have to, how should I approach him to voice my disagreement to his method of monitoring my work?

if your email is more to work stuff, i dont think u will bother much bout why the boss want to check u,..

setting is done at ur IT dept, there is no privacy protection for companies email system

think this is standard email policy...
big or small firms all allow their IT dept to have access to all emails...
hence, never put anything sensitive into your emails... -
HQ office , the IT department people even know i never read some emails and just delete them. Syiok hor..

By right your company mails are strictly for biz purposes
I think your boss has the right to monitor your activities, including your communication with clients and colleagues, because he is in charge of you
Not like he hack into your personal yahoo or gmail accounts, or you use ur email to send pron -

Yes and No......
Your boss owns the business/company and everything relating to it including information ma...... so there's no such thing as information confidential to staff
only.
But your boss' doing this shows he's got no confidence in his staff. This doesn't do staff morale any good......
Some bosses are command freaks and very paranoid lor.....

yes. your boss can do that. And they dun have to"Hack" into your email.
IT side can access all emails, sent, received, and those locally deleted.
In big companies, they usually have a dedicated section to "screen" all emails, to ensure no loss of company secrets, HR information, trade information, etc. -

1. YES. He is suppose to ensure you are using office email, company property for company purposes only.
2. No. Like I said, he is suppose to do that.
3. You can't. IT ensures. And FYI, if you have Inet access, where u surfed, for how long, at wat time and wat day is all recorded by IT.
4. You can't.
I suggest you keep personal chit chat and private information to yourself.

in my office, there's no privacy wan..
all passwords my immediate boss and colleague in the same team will know.
one way it's also good, coz when im on leave, they will take care of all incoming emails and not miss out any. -

Companies have the right to know and aware what is being done on each work station - be it surfing, email and all works with company property.
So, you will need to adhere to all company policies with regards to this. What you do in the office had better be strictly official and nothing else.
Have your personals done outside office hours. -
If u using winxp just enable the windows xp firewall and deny everything that is incoming. even he install the hack tools in ur pc, also cannot see. hahaha
for me if i wan do anything, i just go in my company firewall and change the settings that suit my situation. haha. me bad ah. haha -

Technically no. The moment you were being employed by your boss or company nothing of yours is private anymore. Your boss has all the right to scrutinize all your mails as long as he do it in the office because office hour you belong to him. You signed on the dotted line before the employment. You agree to abide to the rules and regulations of the company. But morally, your boss is not so rightlah. Either he don't trust you or he suspect you are playing the company out, which leads the question back to you. Are you?

dun ever use your office email for personal stuff... it's safer and more convenient to sms or use yr personal email

As long as u see a single eye on bar below screen, it means dat boss hv free access to your e-mail. Some say even to your hard drive.
John Lek lagi best. Apart from installing this software, he also installed phone software to track down who make personal calls.
He did all this stupid things but forgot to manage the company. Manage until company close down.

Downloading stuffs for your own personal use and has nothing to do with the company is definitely frown upon. Worse, your boss can use that against you to give you the boot and not pay you any form of compensation should he don't like your face anymore and you can't do anything because you have violate the company rules and abuse your rights. Your views have been invaluable.
Just for the record, I always abide by company regulations and probing my work doesn't bring me any good nor will it boost my confidence. In this era, bosses have to change their mindsets if they want their employees to change theirs. If bosses are not confident of their employees, do not employ them. Do all the work yourself.
