h2 elit or h2 maths

hi
i cant decide btwn taking h2 elit or h2 maths.
if i take h2 lit i will take h1 maths
if i take h2 maths i will take h1 lit
h2 is harder than h1 considerably.
im an arts stream student. i only took 6 subjs in sec sch so the subjs i can choose in JC is limited.
i dint take amaths in sec sch, hence my maths foundation is very weak. ppl usually advise me to take h2 elit and h1 maths (maths compulsory) combi.
but the problem is my elit sucks as well. i never understood nor liked it.
i still gotta choose between this 2 subjs. h2 elit or h2 maths? will someone advise me. which 1 would be easier to cope with etc?

okay i took both h2 maths and h2 lit.
ultimately its easier to score for h2 math. Just pay attention in lessons, PRACTISE HARD and you shd get your A.
h2 lit you will be weighed against those who are REALLY COMPETENT in LIT in the top 5 JCs. So to begin with, ur language shd already be of a certain calibre. With that, in your next 2 years you shd focus on ANALYZING and EVALUATING the style and language of texts...style, technique and form for poetry. Banal characterization or regurgitation of narrative wldnt get you far.
If you want to take h2 lit you have to be prepared to work really hard. Examiners look for an INFORMED PERSONAL RESPONSE and RIGOUR. Informed personal response meaning you assess writing with your own opinions. WHY does the poet choose this particular word? Is this word the most appropriate? Are there better alternatives? WHY does Shakespeare include this particular scene/character in the play? What is its effect? How effective a contribution to the plot is it?
Your opinions have to be substantiated by the most felicitous quotes from the text. That is where rigour comes in. You need to have a quote bank from which you be selective and memorize the best quotes which you think will support your opinions. These quotes give you DEPTH in ur essay.
Just as math requires practise, lit also requires us to practise writing essays. You prepare essay outlines WITH SUPPORTING TEXTUAL EVIDENCE. Weeks before ur lit exam you just spam essays and rewrite everything! Dont forget to memorize ur quote bank too!
IMHO, unless you are really weak in math, i suggest takin H2 math if you wanna get an easy A. For H2 lit, an A is achieveable, but only with A LOT of hard work and passion! Its true that lit is pretty difficult to score.

A teacher told me: It is better to study sci/math, art u can do at university.
For someone who hasn't made up his mine, I think it is better to study math. A lot of courses will be closed to you in university if you don't take up math at A levels. You might think it is a quick decision, but without math your options really drop a lot. Just my 2 cents from a JC student -

I think ultimately i would choose h2 elit over h2 maths. My maths is more horrible than my elit.
Not sure if the JC allows me to take elit though, i forsee my lousy elit o level grade already. (I didnt study everything.. Skipped some topics and ended up screwing the paper)
May i know what kind of texts do you study for lit? I'm fine with studying storybooks but i cant stand studying poems. Cant understand most of the words. -

Do you mean courses like engineering? I dun tink i will want to take engineering ba. Im better in arts than sciences.

H2 Lit you gotta sit for 2 3hr papers. Paper 1 is a compulsory paper...consists 3 sections. Section A is Poetry Comparison you compare and contrast 2 poems. Section B choose between one essay qns and one passage based from a text ur tutor taught ur. Section C is on a shakesperean text.
Then depending on ur JC ur gotta do an elective paper. Section A is a critical commentry on a poem or prose you choose one. Section B you have to compare and contrast TWO texts. Section C you choose from two essay qns on a particular text. IN this paper all ur texts revolves ard a theme...Paper 3 is on modern lit...Paper 4 on imagining other worlds...Paper 5 on identity etc.
I did Great Ex and Antony and Cleopatra for P1 and my sch did P4...compared The Handmaid's Tale and 1984, and did Dr Faustus. -

Maybe you can look at the syllabuses to compare which one you would prefer more.

Differentiations is in H1 math too. It is assumed that you are comfortable with set notation. Your JC might give a refreshment class if there's time. What is your other combi subjects? Again it's up to how much you are willing to work. You would probably have to work very hard for lit. Practicing essays time and time again. Being confident in elit is also important. Math is possible to score if you practice very hard and conceptualise in class, this applies for everyone. I got my A all along since day 1.
Most courses I mean Chemistry and Biological sciences. Maths will help you in Computer and Business classes too. Have you checked out university web sites on their admission criteria?

You have to ask urself stuff like
Whats the style of the prose?
WHY did the author use this particular line?
What words make it stand out?
WHY this particular word not others?
What imagery/metaphor is used? What other literary techniques?
Finally...HOW EFFECTIVE ARE THEY? Do you appreciate it? Cld this atmosphere be achieved thru alternate means?...
