i was just toying around with the idea of becoming a lesbian..*lick lick nat n fifi*..HAHAHA..when i remembered this interesting practice they have over in North America called berdache where they allocate the male gender roles on the basis of cultural preferences rather then the assumption of a biological predisposition.
for eg. an anatomical male who strongly prefer basket-weaving to hunting could move in a female circle, dress as women did and even take husbands.although they retained their male genitals, they ceased to be males.
In this case, activities were as significant as anatomy in determining sex!
As you have realised..the popular culture and mass media also has an impact on the analysis of gender.
There was this study done whereby they examined all the titles for young readers in the catalogue of childrens library books, and guess what, there were 3 male characters for every 1 character who was female. Just look at shakespeare..Richard the 3rd..all so famous Hamlet..how about Charles DICKens Great expectations..hehehe
I do believe our sexual identities are socially construction throughout the years on this earth.Take it in a more interesting and extreme manner, it would be compulsory heterosexuality drawing attention to the possibility that the desire for the other sex is not merely a preference but something that has to be imposed organised probably propagandised or even maintained by force.
so you dont believe it has to be maintained by force?Look at it this way, the culturally constructed fear of homosexuality and lesbianism or what we call homophobia is apparent in this society which actually functions to police the behaviour of all men and women watever their sexual preferences.
Is it a stigma to become one..
should I???
*lol*
eh..ok lar..i'm really bored
