having a friend is definitely better than having an enemy, even though in this case he is not needed at all. i suppose it would be better for him to remain neutral, though slightly GL and XL, towards you, rather than pissing him off altogether and make him aim you.
from your first post i could tell you are the type who does not really like to gossip about others, and rather keep all the bad things to yourself. if there is a need for you to keep your relationship with your GF healthy, you can just tell her about this guy..
given his character, what he says about you, his credibility would have been completely ruined. also, if your GF is discerning enough, she would definitely understand. perhaps this might show as a test of character in the face of adversity?
on a side note, im pretty confused about whether you are worried that your relationship with other would be affected, or you are just pissed off with that guy for bad-mouthing you.
