my left jaw joint will "crack" whenever I move my jaw or open my mouth to a certain limit. a no. of yrs ago i visited a dentist and my mouth was open wide and kept open for a long time then my jaw was "locked" n unable to close, my dentist then shut my mouth with force. i believe this is the cause for my left jaw to become loosen or dislocated. anyone has such problems? any advices?
How often do you need to open your mouth pass the certain limit?
And do you need to leave it wide open for long period like for example a free-lance job? ![]()
when eating, yawning, laughing, brushing teeth.... i think this "cracking" gets serious lately...
btw why would u link this to "free lance job". don't tell me i come to wrong forum.
anyway jus casually ask n see if anyone here having such probs as well n how they deal with it...
Yes. You should seek advice from your local GP.
The free-lance was just a pun. ![]()
i know... but before i seek help from dentist, i would like to know if anyone here also facing such prob n how u deal with it... cos i thought its like quite common??

Get your GP to recommend you an orthopaedic if it's really that serious.

I don't have that problem. Better go seek help.
simple solution. don't open your jaws too wide than.
That has happened to me a few times before, but I guess I'm lucky cos it solves itself after a while. So even though I have suffered from the same problem as you, I can't give good advice.. Sorry :/ You're really better off asking a GP or something.
If i were u....i go direct to a specialist...coz GP will most likely refer u to a specialist...Especially if the condition is deteoriating right now.....
It will solve itself after a while.
Did the 'cracking' happen immediately after the visit to the dentist or were they two seperate things in two different time intervals? I'm guessing that some of the lubricant between the jaw joints are lacking and thus results in this peculiar sound. However, if you experience no pain, then it probably means the two bone joints still haven't touched each other.
I recommend you drink more water. Give the thing a few days before taking yourself to a clinic.
Yeah it happened to me once before. Whenever I open my mouth wide my jaw will make some cracking sounds. After a period of time, my jaw is ok.
if u feel worried, maybe see a specialist to understand ur condition better.
i heard bout this b4...
they say that it is the exerting of too much pressure on one side of the jaw... for example, u chew with ur left inner teeth, and always didnt used ur right inner teeth...
if i am not wrong there is a cure for this, operation anot i dunno...
if this is TOO SERIOUS, u might get ur jaw dislocated
IA
sometimes i get it too..
when i laugh or talk.. hopefully its nothing too serious lor..
but i think maybe lack of calcium?
TS, kindly update me if u visit a GP abt it..
thanks..
Its sounds kinda creepy.
You should had sue that dentist then...
When I see this topic, I am like wtf; my left jaw is also hurting since a few days ago, and I didn't even realize when and why it started. And it's really getting on my nerves that I can't yawn without stopping to do so abruptly a moment later because it gets fucking painful when you try to open the injured jaw.
Anyway, fyi, this condition is known as trismus and there are many causes to it, ranging from mild to severe cases. Just take note that it is well-known for being one of the symptoms of tetanus (the common name for "tetanus" is "lockjaw"), so if you begin displaying other symptoms related to tetanus, you would really need to visit a doctor as soon as possible.

i have the same problem too. checked with my dentist before and she told that it's not a dental problem...
I have this before and it is called "Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD)".
You should visit a doctor and it will take 1-3 weeks for the pain to be gone.
Check up the link below for more information.
thanks all for the advices and informations... will do something to it soon.

Sorry if my reply is late
This is just infection between the joints on your Jaws. You can just visit any GP, where the doctor will give you some antibotics and painkillers.
It will take 1-3 weeks to recover.
I don't think there is any side effects unless operation is required.
my jaw cracks too. a doctor says its a dental problem. but i went to a TCM, he said it was due to loose ligaments. accupuncture helped and chewing gum will also help to strengthen the ligaments.
I had these cracking sound for years .. in fact I just open my mouth and move the jaws and the cracking sound can be heard. I got it when I did boxing when I was in my teen.. I will avoid thing like chewing gums as it will definately " locked " my jaw. Try not to yawn too loud and keep my mouth open as small as possible. Already 30 over years but didn't see doctor.. just maintain a "low profile " for the mouth and I am ok ... just my experience ... maybe visiting a doctor could help but I doubt I will go now that I am old leow ...
