Working in a hospital as a staff nurse, as i am a rather new nurse, and i am a slow learner, i was assigned to a preceptor. Preceptor's job (usually Senior staff nurse) is to teach new staff nurses.
I hate my preceptor so much that i am so fear for work everyday because she scolds when a bit of mistakes is being made. She even scolded me in front of my collegues, patients and their relatives. She expected for a new nurse like me to know everything. She wouldn't assist me for i am doing, she only checks my works. Everyday, i had work 1 - 3 hours of overtime because i did not complete when i had to do, of course, my preceptor also need to accompany me for the uncompleted. She scolded, "Did the hospital pay me overtime for teaching you?"
I am now very depressed. I used to laugh alot last time, but not even a single smile from me now. Feels like quiting the job, but i was bonded with the hospital.
VERY VERY SAD>>>!!! ARRRR
What does a preceptor do?
You seem to dilike the preceptor, not the job.
Am I right to say that?
Then buck up. She's just training you hard now so that you will be able to survive on your own without people picking up on you. Besides, she had to spend time trailing you and spending the time getting upset with your poor performance.
Imagine if your mistake cost someone their life. Then you might blame your perceptor for not teaching you hard enough.
New at job of course get some shit. You think like school. Mistake get "F" only? If you cannot take this little bit of stress then quit being a nurse. Bond is only money, just pay back mony loh.
wrack her after work ![]()
reminds me of myself when i first started work haha, so many people i wanted to wack after work.

Maybe u can talk to someone senior on top regarding this thing?
Making sure u can survive on yr own is one thing. Never teach/guide u and expect u to be top notch is irresponsible in my opinion. I think if u one day cannot take it. U shall fcuk her back. Nurse has no military law or DB. Just told her off, 'U never teach me anything and expect me to know. U think I am god?'
think on the bright side.
what she's doing is actually for your own good eventually. she can just simply don't care about you instead of accompanying you when you have uncompleted work, scolding you for your mistakes or checking your work.
cheer up, alrights? =)
know how u feel... since u jz started, do your best... treat her scolding as dog barking... most impt is u learn n dun make so many mistakes cos it might cause lives... but u need to talk to her about the OT part cos maybe if she also help u out it might be faster...

Despite how fierce she can be, you don't have to be afraid of her.
The more you are scared of her, the more dominated she can be
You can try to be nicer to her.
Give her a smile everytime you see her. Greet her good morning etc.
Buy her coffee and tea etc.

Why do you hate your job as it is better than dish collecting and washing jobs in kopitiam and cleaner's job and car washing job at petrol station. Those jobs are tedious and low pay.
dont hate it. learn to respect it . hang hang chu zhuang yuan. perserval and you will succeed in life
First step is always the hardest, I can understand how u feel.
Since u are bonded, then no choice but to tell urself u can do it and prove to her ur abilities. Treat her scoldings as a lesson for u to learn ur mistakes, because in hospitals the staff are dealing with life and death, so naturally she'll be alot stricter with u.
After learning the ropes, i'm sure things will be easier for u. Good luck. ![]()
Don't be so hard on yourself, you are new. Noboby in this world is borned to be a staff nurse. Learning takes time.
Don't be too concerned about your preceptor points of view. Give yourself time to learn and adapt. Your preceptor is probably trying to pull rank or trying to showoff.
If she continues this way or turn abusive, report her to higher authority - maybe your nursing manager can help?
Remember to smile - don't let what happening around you rob you of your inner strength, inner calm and your self dignity. Their are your priceless assets - remember!
dont u have a hr dept ?
ask em assign a new perceptor to you loh.
brace up & u'll get over this in due time. exact senario might happen eleswhere, so no point quitting just because of this.

Say is easy than being done. I see her face, i got that phobia to approach.
You know sometime, i know that i know how to do the correct thing, but with she around, i will just somehow did something wrong. She is like staring at you with one kind, the face is so black, and scold whenever you make one small move. With such a person around, how possible for me to concentrate on my patient. I tend to concentrate more on her face than the patient face.
I am trying hard...
I been a nurse for 6yrs & I hv been through the days much worse than u, my preceptor never guide me just leave me alone to suffer & talk bad abt me to wd sister. Nsg life is like that, full of backstabs though some r gd. It takes times to get use to it. Don’t break ur bond is not worth it. U can ask for transfer to another dept aft ur confirmation which is abt 6 mths for most hosp. Don’t care wat other said abt u just do ur work. Take one step at a time. Try to talk to ur colleagues abt ur problem i'm sure they will help u. I wish u all e best.
hahaha..
That reminds me of, i also did the same thing to my new colleague a few year ago. When he join me, he ish very blur one.
He everything also dont know so the big boss ask me to teach him his work. Something i was like throwing him into the sea and letting him learn how to swim.
Eventually he became very experience in his work. Although til now he still treat me very nice but i think he must have hated me a lot during that time.
=P
